We had a good turnout for today's meetup. A beginner, a dog, a kid. We play kind of slow though.
We had 2 guys who haven't played in a couple of years but they really threw well including an incredible sidearm. The kid (9) had been playing since he was two. He was talking smack the whole time about "beginners luck," "into the tree again?" and that sort of thing. I was amused.
We were going to kayak but it was a little too chilly in Austin… Continue
Looking forward to more golf after 4pm everyday the rest of the spring and summer. I am headed to Spartanburg and Greenville this week for the last time on a consistant basis for work. I hope to play Boiling Springs Monday afternoon thanks to extended day light and TImmons the rest of the week.
I am continually searching for fans of Mini Disc Golf. Did you know that there is a Mini Disc Golf Federation? (MDGF) It can be viewed at www.minidiscgolf.com. We are an organization that promotes Mini Disc Golf everywhere we can. We have run the last 3 PDGA Pro World Mini Championships and will be at the Pro/Am Worlds this year. Stop by and check us out. Our Mini Basket is made for permanent course installation and considered to be the premier professional piece of Mini… Continue
Alright, this isn't about disc golf, but then not everything on this site is about disc golf, so there. While I'm at work I usually drink water (actually a mixture of bottled water and carbonated, sugar-fee, flavored water, but that's probably TMI...), but every now and then I feel like drinking something else. I mean, sometimes I need a little jolt of caffiene or sugar to get through the day. Anyway, when the spirit moves me I make use of one of the two vending machines just outside of the… Continue
This picture was taken the first time I went and played the Cross Canyon Challenge in Brooksville, FL. This event was played on the "currently defunct" Gran Canyon course, the BEST that I have ever played. The course is built into an old quarry, old enough that plenty of vegetation has grown in. As a result of being in a quarry, there are 100' cliff drops, crazy dog-legs and holes that you couldn't dream up even if you had a ton of dirt and eartthmoving capabilities.
The picture is of me… Continue
There was an old slogan that was used by Surfer magazine in the 80's: "only a surfer knows the feeling". Well, only a disc golfer really knows what I mean when I say that I learn deep lessons every time I play the game of disc golf. What do I learn about? Well, that depends on the day and the round, but just about everything that I learn can be applied directly to life. Yes, I'll say it -- disc golf is a religion.

I made it out to Lakewood yesterday afternoon, trying to beat the rain. Quite a few folks out playing. I decided to play a solo round to try and work on my shots and head game and forego the socializing even though I do enjoy it. I've been throwing the relatively new putter from Revolution called the 1080. I'd compare it to a stiff wizard or beadless aviar although it's got a little different feel to it. I had a couple of putts that I thought were pretty much perfect blow through the back of… Continue

Well we had another successful year for raising funds . Sounds like we might be the champs for the 4 th yr now in the nation and world for most money raised.
Boy was it cold out that day , but luckily we had beverages to keep us warm . Nothing like drinking Jim Beam and chasing it with Hot 100 . 88 people showed up and played pretty good for how cold it was that day .
Well hopefully we can have a better year next year.
Yesterday was Sheila's birthday. As you may know, we're in China until March 24. We visited a cloissone factory, had lunch in a farmers restaurant (two tables total), and visited the Great Wall. That evening, Sheila accomplished one of her trip goals when we went to the Beijing Night Market and ate a skewer of deep-fried scorpions.
I accomplished one of my trip goals when I made several drives… Continue
Steve and I went a couple of rounds at Gower after work. I played about the same today as I did yesterday, I was +3 and +4, which is the same as yesterday. But today I went OB on #9 both times around. I really need to find a field to get out to and just throw. Plus I need to start practicing putting again. I'm uncomfortable putting and it shows up in the results.

A couple of Sidewinders I throw for their sidewinding and occasionally for long sidearms. These are DiscNation bottom stamp bright orange, easy to find discs bought at the store in Austin.
A Destroyer, long shots and hyzers.
A Star Starfire
A Star Max, useful for sidearms that have to break right quickly
A z XS from Discraft, awesome sidearm
A Star TL, long and straight
A couple of Orcs at different levels of broken in

So yesterday, I snuck out before I had to teach voice lessons to figure out this game. Headed out to Montiel around noon, and when I got there, there was one other person on the course. Started throwing discs and low and behold, they actually went somewhere. What?!? No, I didn't eat Wheaties, or have hypnosis. Somehow, all the stuff I have been worrying about, completely obsessing (as in, "how can you ever play this if you can't throw") over just melted away.
I looked over my shoulder to… Continue
Today at work Steve asked if I wanted to play today since we didn't play our regular Tuesday round, so we headed to Gower after work. We were moving from 5 to 6 when we heard the ching of chains elsewhere in the park. that doesn't happen a lot at Gower, but we couldn't see anybody else playing. We were almost to the basket on #6 and Steve said "There's Bill." We waited for him to catch us and played from #7 around. We went around once more then Steve left to go home to get some sleep. Bill and… Continue

Likely most of you have heard of this band, and if you haven't, you probably will soon. My cousin had the honor of filming a concert done in his area of Michigan, and then he was granted access to interview them backstage. They are known to be shy to camera interviews, so he was looking for a good ice breaker. I teased him and told him to ask them if they knew they had a following in disc golf. He asked them, and much to my surprise, they were really pleased to hear that, because many of thier… Continue
Probably one of the more influential people in my life in a round about way. I have 90% of my friends today from playing this man's game. Without the game he created, my life would have been very different than it is today.
We hope we can get one installed in time for the 2009 BC Senior Games. Richmond is the host city and they have no course ............... so I've designed one for the old farm lands at Terra Nova out by the dyke in West Richmond. The area it would go into is about 10 acres of derilict farm fields where masses of blackberries abound. It's a very natural area and a lot of the time very wet underfoot. Perfect for disc golf. I hope to meet with the Mayor… Continue
