School v. Disc Golf

Only have a week left of school. Have a huge summer scheduled, trying to play nationals, DGLO, states, and 5-6 other tourneys. Rivalries are going down!

Vocoding - seriously annoying pop music...

At work, I'm subject to listening to completely intolerable music. "auto-tuning" using a vocoder has become the thang, despite it's terrible use...Here's some funny… Continue

Tournament Focus and Mental Game

Stafford Lake DGC - Novato, CA

The key to a strong mental game is to realize what you need to do in order to score well on the course. It’s best to not let the mind stray from what you set out to do at the start of the round, play consistent and as mistake-free as possible. You don't want to ever lose focus when the situation shifts to less then ideal. The best way to develop a… Continue

Some People Don't Know Enough to Come Out of the Rain...

...and I'm one of 'em. So are eight other women I know; members of our Lansing MI disc golf league. We play every Monday night between April and November, pretty much, and like the famed faithful postal employee, it seems we are willing to throw through mud, sleet, hail, rain, snow, and gloom of night. You might be tempted to say we need to get a life, but we'd each say we have one, for sure!

As adults we are too easily thwarted by external conditions. You know the drill: it's too… Continue

kinda feel the ball people have infiltrated our turf

A frisbee is probably the number one symbol of the counter culture. It is destined to take over the ball as it is far superior in power, glide, watchability, and so on. Frisbees and Disc have always been a way for me to escape the jockular bad attitudes of traditional sports and the people who play them. The ball people are here. There messing with people. Denying them membership to the club, pitting people against each other. Bringing seriousness to a level that Disc Golf should never… Continue

Port Angeles' Event

On Saturday, April 25th, Port Angeles Disc Golf Association (PADGA) had their fundraiser event. It was wonderful day - slightly over cast, with occasional sun breaks. We also had some wind here and there - where it nipped at us on certain holes. The goal of the PADGA was to promote disc golf in Port Angeles and to help raise funds so we can try to get some baskets into the local park. PADGA had been trying to establish a disc golf park in Clallam County, Washington, for a while. They first… Continue

My baby shoots par!

It took less than a year for my girlfriend to go from shooting 50 over par on our 18 hole course to shooting even. I was soooo proud of her game. Its even more impresive to me because she just started throwing backhand a couple of months ago. Its taken her game to a whole new, more consistant level. Well done baby!

Feel free to loiter and watch the short ceremony, but pretty please don't be upset if we use up those tees for about 30 minutes. We met at this course and play as often as possible, so Peace love and Disc Golf to All of you!!

THe Hall of Chains

Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th I had an opportunity to help the SCDGA clean up the Canton and Massillion courses in preparation for the Hall of Chains. Each day after the clean up there was a round at the course and the winner of each division won a buy in to the hall of chains. I am happy to say I was lucky enough to win my division and will be plaing the 'Chains in may fo sho.

Physical Disabilities and My Intent to Get Better

While playing a casual round on Thursday, I felt my elbow do something weird. Hurt like heck for the rest of the match. My loving GF Nikki is a physical therapist, and she diagnosed me as having loose tendons in my right arm. Nothing I can do to strengthen them or make them tighter, so guess what ? I have to give up golfing with my right arm. Son of a BITCH. This sucks, it totally does. But it does afford an opportunity to train my left arm correctly. I already write left handed, so my hand has… Continue

Why Make it About Money?!?

Anytime I read a discussion or blog post regarding anything that has the slightest bit to do with making this sport more legitimate in the eyes of the general public, eventually the same topic arises. I hear things like "Man, if we could just build up this sport's popularity, then there'd be some real cash in it.", or "If we could get a few big names/sponsors to step up and endorse the sport, we'd have a shot at some big money.". I confess. I'm torn.

I find myself in an interesting… Continue

About me!

Figure since I am new I will tell you guys a bit about myself. I started playing disc golf 3-4 years ago. I had a friend come in from out of town who loved it and told him I would tag along to spend some time with him and fell in love with it. After that game I picked up my first disc, a Shark! I still use it to this day for all around shots.

I started going out to Brown park on an almost daily bases (it is right around the corner from the apartment) and picked up on the game rather… Continue

Casual round at Washington - April 24

Carter and myself went to Washington after work for a casual round. We were hoping the new baskets were in but they were not.

20 mph winds with 30 mph gusts, and we all know how fun that is at Washington Park.

I thought I drove pretty good especially with the wind like it was. The only hole that I didn't drive as well as I would have liked was number 16, for some reason that hole always gives me trouble. It's not like its a tough hole, its just something in my… Continue

About Pro status

Since I heard I got dogged about playing am, and beating pros at the GBO. Let me tell my side of my story. First of all, I believe my rating should be above 900 to be considered pro, that's what I've read with the pdga. Out of respect for the pro division players, I've never considered trying to call myself pro until I've reached that level. I got into a head on collision a couple years ago, and now have two slipped discs, therefore, I never really thought I could play on the pro level since… Continue

4-23-09 Disc Golf in Jamestown, ND

I posted some pics today of the in town course Kluas Park. It is a 1200 dollar fine to cross the dike. Well the hole park is inside of the dike system. I wish they would let me play because with the flooding it makes for one of the tightest courses ever to be played. The other picture you may not recognize is the Glory Hole. This is the emergency spill way for the Jamestown Dam. Once the water level gets this high it flows uncontrolled throw town. Expected forcast is that the water will peak at… Continue
