West Ashley Park

I'm in Charleston for a few days to follow Furman in the SoCon Baseball Tournament. They played a very ugly game yesterday against Appalachian State, but ended up winning with two outs in the bottom of the 10th on a grand slam by Bobby Hubbard. That was a very exciting finish to a very poorly played game. I headed out to find West Ashley Park this morning and play a round there. I have been to Trophy Lakes before and felt like I didn't want to go play across and along all that water. So I… Continue

SABATTUS!!

Beatz bet me a disc this course(s) would make it into my top 5, he lost that bet. They are great, top 25 maybe, not bad out of 460+.

Round one was on the "Hawk" course. When you pull in, you are blown back by the sight of a huge basket fountain sign, a full size clubhouse/pro shop, tees and baskets everywhere, etc..

Thanks guys at Sabattus for the hat and disc. You can't miss this place if you come to Maine.

Not to forget I played the second round with Keiran ____ who was on my… Continue

Main(e) Disc Golf

..is way better than you'd think and worth the small fees on every course!

So far there's almost nothing bad about disc golf here, I guess you get what you pay for. The least liked course is actually the one for the tournament, and it was in better condition than most courses back home.

Today I played 4 courses, between 8am and 3pm, there are plenty in this small region.

Woke up early to play Dragan Field in Auburn, ME with Josh

Innova Disc Chart Visualization

I found this pretty cool data crunching tool, called Many Eyes, that allows you to create visualizations for your data. So to learn the tool why not use Innova Disc specs? Try playing around with it. You can switch the view from Speed, Glide, Fade, and Turn at the bottom.

Off to Stafford… Continue

Kansas City Chiefs...check this out!

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have now purchased their own YTB travel site. You know a business is legit when you have a Football Franchise purchase a site for themselves. You know for sure that their lawyers went through YTB with a fine tooth comb.

If they can do… Continue

I was playing with something cool today

I found this website called Many Eyes that crunches data, so to try it out I used Innovas specs on their discs. Try playing around with it. You can look at the different characteristics of the various discs by changing the view at the bottom.

Hope you like… Continue

Much thanks to give today

First to Mother Nature for waiting to rain until I got into my car after the first round, then stopping when I teed off the next round after only raining for a few minutes, and for stopping the hail after the 6th hole on round #3.

Next to all who have helped me out so far (Grandparents, Solt, Dave Townsend, Beatz, guides on my rounds, the people at the 2 not yet open courses, the guys at D'N'D for the sticker, and the guy at Beaver Brooks for the sweet lightning disc, and anyone… Continue

Success and failure

Most of us grade life on a curve. Success and failure are relative terms. There are no absolute scales. If you earn XXX per year are you a success or failure? That question is often more difficult It depends on who you are and what skills you have and your health and sometimes luck. If you or I earn a million dollars we think we are kings. If Michael Jordan only earns a million dollars he is having a bad year, even in his post professional life. For others money doesn't mean anything and I… Continue

Thanks G Dubya B for the basket!

I played a tourney this weekend and completely could not put for poop. and still placed 6 of 15 in advanced. Luckily GWB gave me 600 hundred dollars to stimulate the economy which I interpreted as the disc golf economy( as if there is any other), and ordered a sexy Mach III with a wheeled base. It needs to get here now because my putting went to hell since I joined the military and pretty much quit practicing.

Im gonna put it together and then we will just hold eachother(me and the… Continue

Beatz/Pay to Play/Horrific car accident

Today began arriving at Pleasant Hill with Dave Townsend (thanks for the bed) and waiting for Beatz to play a round. I finally got online for a moment and rushed some stuff online. No Sprint-Speed here, still not tonight, had to pay for internet access right now can't make a call not even roaming.

Scarborough (Scahhhhhhbouhhhhoogh), ME: Pleasant Hills Gold+Silver (2)
: I played with Beatz, starting before the course exploded and got packed for the rest of the day. The Gold… Continue

Rumble @ The Run

I have had NO sprint signal for at least a day (not a huge surprise, could barely get a satellite signal around here).

Newport, NH- Pinnacle: This is a new course, a work in progress, but it is very playable and clean much work has been put into it already. It is very tough, I shot a 57. Good design, no 'crazy' or irregular holes, tight woods on some steep hills with lots of rocks and creeks. The tees are rough but they are working on them one by one, and the signage is good.… Continue

Diversity training

I attended mandatory diversity training today. It is important that a person in my position be diversity trained because my average day is spent alone in my office in the basement reading, summarizing and analyzing legal arguments. 90% of the phone calls I receive are wrong numbers. The other 10% are my wife and kids calling me to come home for lunch or to drive someone to ballet or karate. Dealing with the public or pretty much anyone other than my boss is just outside of my job… Continue

Bad Luck Weather...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've played tournaments every weekend since March 1st, and I'm still waiting for ideal conditions. I know you can't have perfect weather every weekend, but I haven't had low winds, warm weather, and solid teepads yet. Not once. We're talking 11 weekends in a row, going on 12 here. It has either been 20+ mile per hour winds, rain, or as was the case this past weekend: teepads made of mudslicks.

I might play two tournaments this weekend. I'm playing… Continue

Disc Golf

I played my first game with a borrowed DX Beast and a Polecat. That night I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Rhyno putter, Viking distance driver and a Gazelle fairway driver. These 3 are decent discs. The Viking goes pretty far but has too much fade for my liking. The Gazelle doesn't go near the distance I prefer. The Rhyno is not very accurate. I have found a Cobra and a Stingray mid-range disc on the course and prefer these to putt and approach much more than the Rhyno. I have also found a… Continue

Lakewood Dubs

I finally made it out for random dubs at Lakewood last night. Beautiful, shorts wearin' weather! I partnered up with Brian Hayes and we managed to shoot a four down (with a bogie on geezer). We had our chances to score well but still, we ended up pretty far off the ten under winning round (I think that's what it was). There was a little wind at the course but not too bad. Also in my group were Toby Cheff and Scott Hill from OR, all very pleasant company.

It's mowing season, but the morels are good!

Spring in Wisconsin is with us now in full force, with the leaves coming out, trilliums and other wildflowers blooming and, of course, grass growing. Yes, its mowing season again. Time to fill up the tractors and try to keep everything tame. Oh well, what it takes up in time it gives back in relaxation!

The morels are coming in good this year, with about 75 or so picked so far. I added a picture of one day's haul. They are good little suckers, and I think that the number I'm getting… Continue

Ace..FINALLY!!

I finally got my first ace tonight, at about 8:15.

It was on hole 11, at Watertown Slumberland Disc Golf Course. 175 Feet.

Weapon of choice:175 Champion Shark

The night was perfect weather, wish I could have kept playing but it got dark. What a way to go into the weekend of my first tournament!

Meyer Broadway 5/13

For anyone who is excited about AM Worlds coming up, i have a little info for you. I played Meyer Broadway on tuesday, it was moderately windy and warm. I shot a 56 with 3 bogeys and 1 deuce. I felt very good about it besides a spit-out and a roll-away. Overall, the course is starting to wear in a bit, and they are mowing a little bit better than last year already, which is good. The rough is still painful and deep. I haven't gotten a chance to check out the temp. course yet, but i'm excited… Continue
