Two Lucky 1000+ rated rounds

I always wanted to throw a 1000 rated round in a sanctioned tournament. At my age with my rating it did not seem likely. In seven days I've now thrown two of them.

At the Pennsylvania State Championships I played Am Master and we had a very close match for 60 holes. After 54 holes I was in second, 2 back. At the beginning of the fourth round I started to make a move. I birdied three of the first four holes before getting a bogey. The other leader and I went back and forth for a… Continue

Niagara area disc golf is good

I played 4 courses in the Buffalo, NY area today, all run by a Niagara area club. They are all in decent to great shape, mostly well marked and easy to play.

I was en route to Farnham, when my gps said I was in Orchard Lake, so I stopped and re-programmed it to play Orchard Lake (Chestnut Ridge) first. This course is INSANELY tight from the blue-long tees. Many shots have no line, throw a putter then a putter on 300' holes. The other tees were more realistic and made a great course.… Continue

2008 Disc 'n Dat Bluegrass Open - "Getting Lucky in Tucky"

2008 Disc 'n Dat Bluegrass Open

On our travels back to the East after the Big D in the Desert, Val and I played back to back tournaments in Kentucky. The second event being the Disc 'n Dat Bluegrass Open, one of my favorites due to the courses and the travel vicinity to my parents home in Ohio, an annual tournament that I used to play every year when I lived back home. It is also… Continue

Step'in on up to 10 speed!

Decided I'm getting a strong enough throw to go up to some "10 speed", bigger rimmed discs. Traded the Swidewinders for Orc's, which I really like as the sidwinders were going "hard right" when I tryed to throw hard from the tee. I'm trying for a trade on Discaroo: http://www.discaroo.com a disc "trading" site to get a Starfire to step up to from the 9 speed Viking and a Monster to step up to from the 9 Speed Pro Line Firebird too.

I figure I'll be throwing 10 speed drivers for a… Continue

Trying to Raise Money for a Course? Leverage the Disc Golf Foundation!

I'm involved right now with the design of what will be a great course in Pinconning, Michigan. Pinconning is, to put it mildly, not in the economically most robust part of Michigan, which is itself, not exactly economically robust right now. But the lady raising money for the course, Lorie Szyperski, has raised more than $4,000, so far. (There's even a disc golf course fundraising 'thermometer' on the front page of the local… Continue

New York

Well I began in PA at Prompton Dam DGC in Prompton. It is very scenic, on a slope leading down toward the lake at the edge of a dam. Mowed grassy fairways, no 'woods' holes just some pins tucked into the woods. It is very long, and there are 2 sets of pins per hole both in the ground. The yellow pins are more realistic, the original layout I suppose it is (tee signs all gone temporaily for the re-do). The red baskets make it a ton of 350-500' holes. I am a big-arm sorta, but to me the red… Continue

Colorado Open 5/9/08

Colorado Open starts today with doubles at 4:30 PM. I'm not going to make it over for doubles because my wife has the car tonight (girls night), but that's cool, if I can't play CMC well, then ... I suck! ;)

Weather is holding pretty good. I expect a few showers tonight, and maybe some tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it will be like today, and any moisture will hold off until late afternoon. Sunday weather looks to be good.

I'll be playing Pro Grandmasters with some of the… Continue

St Louis Open follow up 5/9/08

Well ... if the most fun wins, then I would have to say I was one of the big winners at the St Louis Open. Sure, my scores could have been better, but for the most part, I played OK considering it was my first time playing any of the 4 courses used (in their current tournament layouts).

Our first day, the weather was challenging, with fairly high winds and a little rain. The Advanced Grandmasters started Saturday morning at Sioux Passage. This 8500+ foot course is big, and long. It… Continue

disc-la(i)mer

I pulled over into a New York welcome center to write this on the way to the course in Corning.

First off, if you don't like my review, don't read it. I didn't do this to write reviews, I was asked to. This was planned 3 years ago, this site has been around for 4 months.

Second, as I have stated several times- I appreciate (extremely) the hard work and dedication people all over the country put into getting courses installed. I know what it takes. Without them we wouldn't have this… Continue

the perfect round

Enter the City Park.

Fairly open, short, only nine holes, and considered too easy for us "Pros" to play. You've birdied every hole before, just never all of them in the same round. I mean, you can birdie all of them right, you just missed those two putts and ended up -7. You could of made those putts, you could have thrown the perfect round.

Well if you can birdie any of the nine holes, do it, birdie all of them, in the same round, -9 after nine. The perfect… Continue

Winning dubs

Woke up at 9am to look out the window and see it pouring rain, everything soaking wet. I headed to play Yetter park in East Strousburg pa. It says in the guide it is 75% complete as of 10/06, so I figure it's good to go as of now, right? No.

It is in miserable condition, the local in charge of the course apparently got Lyme disease and has been unable to work on it (hope he's ok) so it is extremely overgrown, and was never fully cut out anyway. It's like a jungle, there are… Continue

Gower Park - Nothing Special

Bill and I played 36 holes tonight. I was -2,+3, +2, and even. I still have the added distance on my sidearm but I did have some consistency trouble with it. Bill, Carla, and I always have a good time playing and joking our way around the course. We are both thinking about playing in a small unsanctioned event at Anderson this weekend. Bill has played the course before, but I have never even seen it.

Once the college baseball season is over I should have more time to get out and… Continue

Oshtemo Twp. Park 5/6

Unfortunately i cannot attend the Sasquatch Open this weekend. The course is ready, it's getting all of its nasty foliage right on schedule. I just wanted to let all those AM1's coming out that i shot a 53 on tuesday, and thats a good number to shoot for. I wanna wish everyone good luck that is going. Hopefully it'll go to a Kzoo man. Take care.

Getting Back into the Swing of Things..

Well I have been on a 2 year or so break from disc golf due to focusing heavily on school trying to get that ever important degree lol. When I got out for the summer I decided that it was time to try disc golf again, mainly because its one of those sports that you cant live without, its so much fun and traveling and meeting all the fellow disc enthusiasts out there. Anywho the point of this blog is that I am finally easing myself back into the world of disc golf. I may not play many tournaments… Continue

All good

All the courses played today were good. Rare.

Starting with Little Lehigh in Allentown: Great course. Mostly 3's, but challenging and long and open. The trees craft shots, and it has elevation and water in play. Poor rubber/carpet tee pads. Absolutely no signage, I spent well over an hour trying to find the holes. Beginning with finding hole #5, which took 20 minutes. It is a 1,000 ft walk over a road. Then hole #10 or was it #11 i don't think I ever found, after walking half a mile… Continue
