I was pretty excited in February when I was asked to teach a group of 6-12 year old boys the fundamentals of disc golf. I started each lesson with two basic rules: Listen (follow directions) and be safe. They were rules one and one-a. I told the boys that if they were being unsafe they would lose their discs for at least 5 minutes. The first major safety rule was stay behind the first disc so you can't be hit.
Today on the course, one of the boys from the group spotted me… Continue

Small town living in America holds many rewards for those of us who enjoy a slower paced life style. However, there can be draw backs when you are trying to introduce a new and exciting sport like disc golf. This blog will follow yours truly as I struggle to build courses, start a club, and spread disc golf to the masses. (population of Portales, NM is 12,215 residents, give or take an additional 3,000 students when college is in session)

I hadn't played in over a month and threw a sticker out there today! I missed the mandos on #3 and #8 and hit many of the trees in the park. Unfortunately I hit very few putts, although I did hit a long birdie putt on #6. I ended up +8 or 35 for 9 holes. That is probably the worst round that I have thrown over there.

The year was 2005 and I hadn't thrown a disc in close to ten years. I gave up playing in 1996 or 97 I'm not sure. I do know that I quit to try to be a better dad. Anyway back to 05, I came up with the idea of selling all my discs. I figured the money I got I could put into another hobby that I was actually participating in.
Enter my youngest a son a senior in High School. He convinced me to keep my discs that he knew I loved. My older son loves me also but he didn't see what his… Continue

You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem. Too bad there is no option for not being part of the solution and not being part of the problem. Boiling things down to simplistic colloquial phrases doesn't always work as a motivational tool. I'll choose option C, please.
