75 Holes and my very first ACE!

Went to Boiling Springs SC with the dog today and was there before 10am. I wanted to get some practice in before the first-ever PDGA event on that relatively new course coming up on July 26th. Here's the link to the flyer- http://scdgo.net/2008_hub_city_challenge_flyer03.pdf

I had hoped one my regular partners would make the trip, but because they couldn't I think I got in a lot more golf than I would have- there are 19 holes out there so 3 times around was 57 then stopped by my… Continue

I got gas for 3.79$ today, and good thing too, I drove over 400 miles.

The most driving I've done on any day so far this trip, I believe. Basically because I drove straight through Missouri only stopping once. I have already played the best that St. Louis, Wentzville, Columbia and Kansas City have to offer so there was no need to stop besides in Marshall. Favorite course in MO- Quail Ridge, Wentzville.

Marshall, MO- Indian Foothills:
I was fortunate to run into one of the designers. He showed me the last 6 holes, some of which I had to skip due to… Continue

Summer Sizzle, Joplin MO June 28 2008

Small club tourney, we have 4 Intermediate players show up and I placed 3rd. I was leading by 2 strokes with 10 holes left then I gave up 7 strokes in the last 10 holes... totally fell apart. The wind and rain persisted all day and at a couple points it was hard to spot the disc in the air. Typically I play well in bad weather and I had most of the day until the end where I simply ran outta gas.

Overall it was a fun afternoon in the wind and the rain with some guys I enjoy throwing… Continue

It's all cool

My A/C gave out today, suddenly started putting out warm air and hissing when turned on..sounding like air through a metal tube. I figured it needed a recharge, so after my rounds I finally found an auto-supply store and got some. Never done it before, but it wasn't so hard. Seems to have fixed it.

Had to detour several times today due to water-over road or a river flowing down the road. I am in the flood zone now, St. Louis. Crazy..the road by the Arch is underwater, and the parking… Continue

Oh no, not again!!!

Sometimes it seems there are too many hands in the cookie jar. It is so hard to keep everything in order when so many people try to "help out". Usually I find that the motive is merely that the "helpers" think they can do a better job or that the job will not get done if they don't do their part. The kicker is the way they act. They act as if they are pissed at the world and are short and rude to everyone. Hey! Do us a favor. If you're not asked to help, don't help. Sit back and just relax. We… Continue

Heading west

Evansville, IN- Mesker:

Great long and challenging course that plays up and down big hills, usually near the park road OB. One hole uses the road to create an island you must land on. Good tees and signs, easy to follow. Played with some locals, including another Ben who stomped me on his course. Most holes are a tougher par-3. One hole forces you to throw into a small gap, blindly, downhill, into ivy filled woods. I didn't like that as a design aspect at all. Avoid the rough, it's… Continue

Louisville, KY- Charlie Vettiner:Mix of open with trees and thick woods, mostly tunnel shots bordered by nasty rough. Relatively hilly, very muddy and slick and the tees get muddy from your shoes. Several championship holes, but mostly basic or lacking in design. Several holes are sort of crazy also. Good tees and signs. If you want a challenge and don't mind thick rough, tons of poison ivy, bugs and mud this course could be for you.

Brandenburg, KY- Otter Creek:This… Continue

Return to competition....

So after my last tournament(Thrills at the Mills) I decided that i really need a break from competitive disc golf. I was getting down on the sport and myself. After starting the year playing and finishing well in tournaments I got my expectations way up to a point where i couldn't meet them. It just became a drag for me to be at a tournament. Since TatM I've been playing casual golf and having fun with the game. Getting back to the roots of why I fell in love with disc golf in the first place.… Continue

Well I have done some fairly intense playing over the past few days playing cedar hill two days ago and sanders ferry yesterday. I got eaten alive at cedar hill bug spray will now be in my bag at all times lol. I shot decently for being such a tighter course than im used to, I shot even. At Sanders Ferry my short game was really on mark. I shot a 1 under , btw, i shoot par 3's. I heading to the course today it feels like a good day. Hope to meet up with the disc golf club around here sometime… Continue

No Camera

I've been dying some discs but the cameras are in Arizona.

Jesse Cahill gave me a pale pink Champ Firebird at Crystal Lake to put a Pistons logo on it. That's done. It came out fine, but the colors were not quite as rich as I would prefer. Otherwise it was pretty much bleed-free and I got complete coverage of the elements. I think this one gets a B+.

I did a Red Wings, a Pistons and a Tigers D on Star Wraiths. I did these in one evening baking them at 170 for 20 minutes.… Continue

weekly blog job #3

Good morning. Peace begins with you. A happy, peaceful lifestyle is in your hands. Avoid strife, arguments etc.. Talk to people the way you want to be spoken to. The scripture says... A soft answer turns away wrath. (Be courteous and friendly...) The scripture also says. In order to have friends you must show yourself friendly. BE THE PEACE that you desire! :-)

Rules...are they made to be broken?

Within my disc golf community there has been a debate about the importance of certain rules. As a young disc golf player I like to be naive and believe everyone gets along with everyone and that everyone plays by the rules. Well hear in the real world neither of those things are true. People dislike or have problems with other people and people break the rules. This is why we have a judicial system in the world, to handle people who break rules. Well hear in the disc golf community we have a… Continue

IDLEWILDDDD!!!, "Flat" tire, Deja-Vu

Ok so I played Idlewild for the 2nd time ever today, and it is still my favorite course. I have been worrying about my front right tire since the week I was home, literally right after I left Discount Tire from getting a rotation, I noticed my car was driving funny. I got out to wash it a few minutes later and saw that it looked extremely low, and was at 20 psi (supposed to be in the 40's). I went straight back and they said it was a trainee who used the air hose wrong, didn't actually check… Continue

Hudson Mills Fees

Many disc golfers in the Ann Arbor area have noticed with varying degrees of frustration the new "greens fees" associated with playing at Hudson Mills. I wanted to take this opportunity to give the DiscGolfersR.us community the tools to communicate with their elected officials about this new policy.

First off, let me say that Hudson Mills is a beautiful course. The development and upkeep of both courses there is tremendous and I think that the Huron Clinton Metroparks do a great job… Continue

Left (Opposite) Handed ACE!!

I have been throwing a few shots left handed every round, trying to practice so someday I can throw with both. Using it on short holes I'd normally sidearm, I got about 5 out of 10 deuce opportunities with it this week. Today though, I aced hole #9 at Wilton Woods (about 130') with my Star Firebird. It looked like a left hand hole, and I was actually thinking ace time, and when it hit I was just in shock. Hard to believe my own eyes as it hit and stayed in (thankfully new baskets not the… Continue

I know most people think 637 is a really low rating, but for me it's something to be really proud of. As of the last ratings update, I improved mine by 38 points and finally made it into the 600s! Before I was 599 which was so annoying because 600 is like a mile stone for junior disc golf players. But the best part is that I will probably keep improving by a lot because some of my rounds have been rated, I think, 660 even 680!
