Being injured sucks - we need better NT event coverage

Ok, so on Tuesday I chopped my right big toe up with the mower getting ready for the MN Majestic and now here I sit watch the live scoring updates online when I can see the ski hill at Hyland where they are playing the finals from my apartment deck thinking this sucks! It also has made me think that we need to dramatically improve the quality of our event coverage especially the NT events if we want to be taken seriously on a larger stage as a sport. Any ideas how this can happen? I'd like to… Continue

If only...oh well! I cant tell you how many strokes I left on the course other than this; more than enough to win this thing. It just wasnt meant to be. I had a blast all three rounds and couldnt have hand picked a better bunch of players to be grouped with all weekend. Thanks to those guys for being supportive.

What's up with that?

So I hit my second Ace yesterday and the wierd thing is, it took less time for me to get this one with the lefty than it did with my dominant right arm. ?!?!?! Although now it looks like I will forever be a Lefty. My throw somehow seems less complicated now and my right elbow is still hurtin.

Thieves in Lansing, MI

I was playing a round yesterday with a few buddies and one of their buddies came up from Florida and right away after we got done shooting a round we found that someone stole like $2,000 worth of electronics from his truck. I was pretty happy because I hit my second Ace and first of the year, but this garbage really brought me down. I am wondering why people are so senseless? Anyways make sure you always lock your doors cuz he forgot and now lost a nice Sony Camera and his laptop and a… Continue

DG'n Summers

Played in my first tourney of the year over this passed weekend at Begg Park. Doubles tourney for Disc Cartel. And I can I also say that I won my first tournament! Even though we were only playing against 2 other couples and we were all within 1-2 strokes of each other, a win is a win. Now this coming weekend I've been planning on attending the BCMAMS tourney there at Begg. But then yesterday at leagues I was talking to Lisa and she is going to the Disc Girls Gone Wild at Fitzgerald in Lansing… Continue

An Ace in the Face of Adversity: Travel Blog, Day Four, June 17

The day began with disappointment.

We journeyed the short distance to Winter Park Resort to play their 10,000 foot course in the mid morning. We were prepared to hike the mountain to play (we're too cheap to pay $15 bucks per person to ride the life, and we needed the exercise). As we approached the staff running the lift to get a course map, we find out that the course is closed for redesign until July--that really sucked--I was looking forward to that course. The course is being… Continue

Why Playing Fast Can Improve Your Score

I ran a round at DeLa yesterday, in exactly the 1:15 time I was aiming for. The main goal of staying on the fairway was achieved, and the +2 overall score wasn't great, but wasn't horrible for a running round. The score is mostly attributable to the hospitality of the threesome I encountered on the third hole. Sure, I was -1 after my birdie on 3, and -2 after another birdie on hole 5, but that's as low as I got.

Scores aside, though, the one thing that caused me to think in depth was… Continue

Pine Beetles, a Dilapidated Forest, and Lots of Disc Golfers: Travel Blog, Day Three, June 16

Trudging down the perilous Berthoud Pass from Winter Park, we embarked upon a day in the Frisco/Dillon/Silverthorne area; the Gateway to Summit County, Colorado. Our destination was Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area Disc Golf Course, consistently rated one the best courses in the state. It was our chance to test the theory.

We got there around 10 a.m., and by the time we got finished we were glad we didn't wait to get on any longer. The course began with very little fanfare--it was… Continue

Longest Birdie

Just throwing this out there.... Curious to here about your longest birdies. Yesterday I birdied Pro 8 (465 ft) at Ft. Stelicom DGC. I was pretty stoked... granted there was a little bit of tailwind (4>), but thats not to say that I smashed a drive a cashed a 50+ foot putt. Other Long birdies include... a 433 ft at Ft. Walla Walla DGC during tournament play. On my home course ( White River, Auburn) I have birdied Blue 17 in the short position twice. Once with a 40-50 foot putt and once with… Continue

Way finding, mixed baskets, and Zip Lines: Travel Blog Day Two, June, 15 2009

After a day of much needed recovery at my brother's beautiful mountain home, I was once again ready to throw some discs into the vast unknown. My playing partner for the rest of the trip would be my wife of five years and my best friend of over eleven. When we first met in STL and the first 6 years we dated, we would play DG together several times a week. As a former college softball player, she is very athletic and her mechanics used to be impeccable. But as the kids came, she fell off the… Continue

Mud, Thistles, and Windy Days: Travel Blog, June 12th, 2009

After a day of travel from Santa Fe to Parker, Colorado followed by two days of learning how to encode archival finding aids in XML, I was ready to throw some discs. I had been waiting for this chance for over a month--hoping to find a couple good quality courses in the south Denver area. My nephew, an incoming freshman quarterback at one of the D-1 Colorado universities in September is new to the game; but he was just as excited to get out and play with me as i was to get out and play. It was… Continue
