Double doubles

Played and lost doubles at Pier park last night, tough course to play blind.

Going to doubles tonight at Dabney, so not done yet today.

Played WEDNESDAY JULY 30th---->Portland, OR- Pier:It was set-up in the mostly short layout, which of course makes it tougher for me than if it was long. Variety of straight shots through incredible tall pines. Hilly, somewhat grassy but developing dirt patches, I had two drives skip about 150' and not in a good way. Shady, so when it… Continue

Best score, better putting, and better game.

So in preperation for the Hotlanta (my first real tournament, and my first since signing up for the PDGA) I have played 5-7 rounds a week. I have also bought a basket and joined in on Mr. Ellis' putting clinic. In addition to that, I think I have finally figured out the innova flight chart and I am now selecting the right disc for the job and expiriencing some really consistent driving.

Of coarse you by now know where this is heading... yes I shot some of my best scores this week and… Continue

Whoo-hoo

We're blogging now, baby!

I'm really looking forward to the Calapooia Classic this weekend. Four rounds over two days on three courses: Bryant Park on Saturday morning, Timber Linn on Saturday afternoon, and two rounds at Waterloo Park on Sunday. All three courses should be tough.

I've played two rounds on the Timber Linn tournament course (Willamette Open 9 last fall) and did fairly well, although I understand the course will change for this year. This course is very long… Continue

The more you play...

The worse you get.

Or, so it seems anyway. Since my average score has increased a few points in the last month.

While not anything in particular... if I were to point out a desparity or inconsistency somewhere in my game (based on my usual play) I'd say my putting is where I've dropped the most. Maybe it is just a subtle change in throw or stance that I didn't notice that is causing it. It's hard to gage.

I think playing through these times, (don't stress on… Continue

Oregon Trail

Already blazin' through Oregon, never been here before.

Doubles tonight at Pier Park, so I have one more round left to shoot tonight.

I did not play Sain Scoggins after the first hole due to it missing holes, being extremely rough, and heavy poison oak (just not gonna play when it's around, had enough of ivy on the east coast).

Forest Grove, OR- Mcmenamins Grand Lodge:Surprisingly tough and fun. Large, wide trees that reject everything you throw at them guard some… Continue

Wtf. Steilacoom is what it should be re-named. (edited)

679 courses.

Today was a mixed blessing, a few good courses, nice run in with some disc chicks, and one course so absurd to figure out I'm not sure I'd call it a course. More of a Mind-. Lots of cold, light rain today which is kinda of nice except hard to get pictures in it. While stopping for dinner, I noticed two very attractive young women in a jeep behind my car waving discs at me. After doing a double-take, I grabbed some minis and went over to give them the first of the new… Continue

Dad and Lad disc golfing!

Sooooo, Yesterday I got my Dad involved in DG so now its Dad And Lad Disc Golfing together. He started out throwing backhand with my old 150g dx eagle, and he wasn't getting it very far, like maybe 60 feet.

He was getting really frustrated because on top of that we were at a heavily wooded course so he kept nailing trees and such. Finally I just handed him a 166g champ beast and told him to throw Sidearm! From then on he was great! He was keeping up with me and i was throwing 169g… Continue

Met lots of locals today

Seattle, WA- Lakewood King County Park:Hilly and in an open park setting, with plenty of trees, no rough. Small water hazard on 2 holes. Many baskets (at least 3) tucked near the corner of a fence, which could easily get you OB. Several paths OB and one basket on an 'island' in the middle of the parking lot. I think that's a horrible idea. It puts half the cars in the lot at risk of getting hit by someone's shot. Also, you cannot tell from the tee where it crossed out of bounds, so that… Continue

Honeybear and Some other course I can't spell the name of!

Today I played at Honeybear Hollow Campgrounds and Maconaquah Park

Honeybear is the greatest course I've ever played at. They've got a pro shop where I bought a dragon because I lost my other water disc. But anyways, the course is great there. Heavily wooded so it requires very controlled shots. BEST COURSE EVER. Also rumored to be the 4th course ever made, but no conformation. In Peru,Indiana. Short holes, but no very easy shots. ONCE AGAIN, BEST COURSE EVER. Costs $2 to play per… Continue

finally.......first ace.

Well after starting to wonder whether it was ever going to happen.....I finally got my first ace!!! (although..... no witnesses.....I know this will discredit it in some eyes).

My in-laws offered to take my kids for the day Friday. I met "grandma" halfway at 7 mile and Haggerty. I decided to play Cass-Benton since it is right there and I don't think that I had played it at all in '08. weekdays are still crazy busy there!!!

Hit the ace on#15( 217' sharp downhill thru a… Continue

Big, quick day

670

Today began at 6:30, then an hour drive and teed off around 8:15. Finished 5 rounds by about 3:15.

Lake Stevens, WA- Lake Stevens DGC:One of weirdest courses I've ever seen, due to the baskets. Egg shaped and white, with crossing arches supporting a web-like framework of chains. (See pictures). Each basket is different, the bottom lip is too high, and you can have a different putt depending on where you land around the basket. It is not good for putting, you… Continue

Ohio River Valley Rainforest - Beatty Park, Steubenville, OH

Sheila and I are visiting my relatives, here in the corner where Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia come together. There is a celebration later today for my mother's 82nd birthday. We got up early and, while Sheila headed out for an hour-long walk-jog, I headed down to and over the Ohio River, and back over again, to Beatty Park in Steubenville.

It was about a 50-minute drive, crossing the Ohio River on the toll-bridge only one block from where I grew up, and under which… Continue

These kids need a little help please

This is one of the hardest working groups of kids that I have had the pleasure of knowing. Please show some support for kids that have goals and dreams and work hard at getting it accomplished.

Thank you,
Jen

Back to it

Arlington, WA- Twin Rivers:In the floodplain of a river, this tightly wooded short course feels like a rainforest. Tight tunnel fairways mostly open but bordered with woods, and 3-15' tall thorn bushes and vines, some will shred you. Almost no clean 'fairway' to land on on any hole-either knee high bushes and thorns or the small footpath, and on the 3 open fields shots, the grass is so tall and thick on the sides you're more likely to lose a disc there. Dirt tees, most signs gone,… Continue

Connecting the Dots

Recently I posted on the GRABM message board. Jon and Brett don't like it when I post because I tell too much truth. So I sent an e-mail to Jon and Brett warning them that I had lost control of myself and posted there. I told them I was just out riding my trike, remembering childhood crushes, and one thing led to another, and then I was posting on the GRABM site. Later I decided the "one-thing-led-to-another" could make for an amusing explanation so I wrote it up and sent it to Jon. What… Continue

SeaTac

I went and played SeaTac because I just can't sit around for a whole day entirely.

Seatac, WA- Seatac:The best marked and easiest to play course in WA so far, yet the back 9 is INCREDIBLY hard to find without a map (I took a picture and carried it in my dig. cam.). The 10th tee is tucked in thick woods down a trail, behind a wall of piled dead trees. About half the signs are gone from vandalism, but other than that it is easy to find the hole-just not often easy to find the… Continue
