I am happy to announce a benefit dinner for our brother in disc, Alan "bigs" Sweeton. This will be an all you can eat pasta dinner and disc golf event.
On May 6, 2008, Alan Sweeton was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. On May 12, 2008, Alan underwent successful surgery to… Continue

I suppose I'll start off with what I've done in the last few weeks of Disc Golfing.
I played at Patoka State Park in Birdseye,Indiana...wasn't really the great of a course. Kind of hard to follow and some holes lacked signs, also very easy to lose a disc.
Well after that I was practicing throwing at my basket and I managed to lose my green cyclone-x in some thorny blackberry bushes..:( Note to self: don't get green discs
The next day I played at Mesker Park in… Continue

I played in my second Brent Hambrick Memorial Open this year. I have to start by saying that Paul Jay and the rest of the staff did a fantastic job with the tournament. Everything they did was top notch, and it was a great example of how a tournament should be run. It was great from the check in through the awards ceremony. The courses were in fantastic shape, the players party was a blast (food was amazing and you can't not love inexpensive alcohol).
Congratulations is in order for… Continue

The homeless guy sleeping on the fairway at Dry Gulch, near burnt Pepsi can bottoms was probably a mile high, too.
I decided not to venture up into the mountains until tomorrow, one course has free camping sites I will try to get one of those. I was heading toward Winter Park when I called them, found out it was 15$ not 8$ like it says, so I changed my plans at that point.
Will be at 3 or 4 of the following tomorrow: Hot Sulfur Springs, State Bridge, Grand Lake,… Continue

After being away for a few months, I went back to Mosquito to check out the final layout prior to basket installation. Well I was quite suprised to find that 8 of the fairways that were cleared of brush prior to my first visit were over grown with poison oak. I'm told that this will be removed again, and over time the traffic of golfers will keep it down. Well in the mean time I can't play the holes #2 - #8. It's not that you will end up in poison oak on each hole, it's that I won't risk… Continue

I finally got to see Mt. Rushmore today, it was pretty cool. Something that definitely should be seen by everyone who can in person. Pictures just don't do justice to standing there looking up at it. There's a cool side view spot to see Washington from the side. I wasn't about to spend 10$ to park for a few minutes, and was fortunate enough to get a spot in the tiny pull-off that you can view it from before the pay-to-park. After the first two rounds, I drove 330 miles to the next course and… Continue

I played in a monthly on Saturday where there was an abnormally large amount of people. Ace pool was around $280. I played the second round with one person I knew and two other people who I did not know but they were friends. Twice I noticed one of these other players did not tell the correct score for the hole. The first time I did not say anything, but the second time I tried to make him rethink his throws and he still did not get the right count. Since neither of the other two spoke up I let… Continue

Happy Gilmore, quite possibly the best golfing movie ever, has actually improved my DG game. How? Well, when Chubbs was giving Happy one of his first lessons he made a point to tell Happy that "It's all in the Hips."
In DG the hip-turn is even more important than it is in ball golf. The "X-Step" footwork is the foundation for the proper hip turn and resulting shoulder turn. Most of the power in a throw is generated from the legs which rotates the hips and causes the shoulder… Continue

I changed my mind on where to go today as I pulled out of the campground this morning, decided to go to Montana (added a new state to list of states I've been to and played in). There was one cool sounding course listed 67 miles out of my way (134 round trip), and when I looked it up online to see if it would be open as early as 7am, I found another course listed for that city that was not in the 2008 print guide, but was built in 2001. There are just deer everywhere, one was standing 10' from… Continue

Saturday, after Sheila headed to Hudson Mills for the Femillz tourney, our nephew, Andy, and I drove to the site of this new disc golf course currently being constructed. My intent was to see what the first nine holes looked like, now that rough clearing had been done, and to try to lay out a few more holes for the park staff to do further work on.
It was a pleasant drive. We took the Corvair convertible, with the top down, and drove back roads, so about 60 percent of the roughly… Continue

It's been a long day- got up and packed my tent and hit the course at 7:00am sharp. After hitting Bismarck, during the round at Sunset I almost decided to change my route because the course was just miserable. I am now camping right below a mountain base in the badlands of North Dakota. All I have is the computer battery and a weak sprint signal, so it won't be a long one.
Bismarck, ND- Lions Hillside:
Very short and hilly course, winding it's way up and around and down a large… Continue

I played in both North Dakota and Minnesota today, adding two courses to this year's trip and one to my list of states I've been to and played in. Ticks were the theme of the last round, just going crazy for my legs in the high grass. Lost a disc, found FOUR discs. The wind will not stop, so powerful I couldn't keep my hat on, my bag got knocked off my shoulders once, my car was rocking sitting still in the parking lot, and my star Max would flip over and roll at 150' out in the headwind. It's… Continue

Someone just called from Bridgewater, NJ to return my disc I lost at the Chimney Rock disc golf course..which until I started writing this I forgot how I lost it. It was the tee shot of the first hole, me and Nic had just waited in the car for 30 minutes for the storm to pass. I threw a RHBH hyzer bomb, and thought I was parked. Could not locate it in the rough around the basket due to tall grass, pines, and chest high ivy. It's a red star teerex.
So far on this trip, that's 4 of… Continue
