I complain about the litter bugs at our course. This is ridiculous! Breaking into the money box is a great way to get a course closed.

So, I found another protégé on Sunday. That'd be the third. Really, the second... Evan has moved on as the summer has gone by, playing 980+ golf since the end of July (Freedom Flight, Kingston Open, Falcon Fall Classic). After Freedom Flight I started working with Nick Gray, who has only been playing since June. On Sunday I played some golf with Alex Gilson who has been playing since last December. So far, I feel like I'm doing a good job of identifying new players with some talent in the area… Continue

I made it home safely last night, after driving 750+ miles and playing just 9 holes.
I left Memphis at 7am and got home around 9 pm (1 hour time loss). On the way, I stopped at Idlewild to play my fav. course, and was really upset to find the Kentucky State Doubles going on, unable to play I moved on to a dinky 9 hole course right off the Interstate in Ohio.
I'll probably be here for just under 2 weeks, then head back toward Memphis and to the SE and East coastal states to… Continue

So, I played Winthrop Gold last year during the spectator round. This year I won't even have the chance to make it down for that... but based on the caddy book and what I did last year, and how my game (specifically: my forehand) has progressed this year, here's how I'd probably play Winthrop this year...
1. Challenger backhand, putt
2. XCaliber forehand, Firebird forehand, putt
3. XCaliber forehand, putt
4. Firebird forehand, Firebird spike hyzer, putt

Yesterday I got to play a private course in Southern Humboldt that blew my mind, Birds of Paradise. This course was amazing, lefts, rights, ups, downs, tightly wooded, open fields (but never flat open fields), HUGE elevation change, lots of alternates and tons of room for expansion. The guy who runs the course (on his parents land) is very cool and a fun guy to play with. We played a round on the new layout (that I was only the second or third person to play), then we played some old holes,… Continue

So, today, I headed out to the local course with my dad.
I knew right off the bat it was gunna be a bad day, it was windy and I couldn't make a putt..
I threw my dragon into the water, but it floated, so I was okay.
Still missing putts.
I decide I'm going to try to throw like tim does, with my champ sidewinder. It hits the ground and rolls straight into the water. I didn't really like that disc anyway..
Then my dad sidearms a champ beast straight… Continue

Jacksonville, AR- Dupree:
Begins harmless enough, with some very very short and tight woods holes in land similar to Bandemer, back home. Poorly/not marked, bad tee pads, not in great condition. A few wicked tight doglegs, one is like 100' so it's tough to get a sidearm to turn so fast. Then the back 9, literally beginning with #10, is just miserable and unplayable, the entire fairways are poison ivy. Buggy.
Cabot, AR- Kerr Station:
One of the shortest courses on Earth,… Continue

So I am obsessed with disc golf, I have to golf everyday, no matter if it's shooting at this small course here in Plainwell, which the distance on this nine hole course adds up to a whopping 1385, or throwing my putters in between two skinny trees (and imagining theres a basket there). I have been golfing for a while now. I've had the opportunity to explore one of the biggest and best disc golf scenes in the world right here in Michigan. There are so many disc golf courses in southern Michigan… Continue

Whats up to anybody who even reads this. Well...My name is Emma and i grew up in the Kalamazoo,MI area. We have really awesome disc golf courses there. I started out about 3 years ago...but i just got pretty good at throwing just this past year. The 2008 Disc Golf World Championships were held in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area...and i have to say that it was really awesome! I volunteered as a spotter for the entire week. It was such an amazing experience for me and i'm so glad that it came… Continue

My putter cracked to the center!
On a drive, and still ended up parked. What a tragedy. It has been in the bag for 3 of the last 4 years straight, an old D Challenger, orange, worn-in like no other, that special plastic that was just better than the new ones.
That's the second Challenger I cracked this year, last time is was near freezing and a Crystal Z, this time it was in the mid-80's and a D. Very upsetting. Must have been brittle from years of use and weather exposure, 3… Continue

The Montiel Park Ace Race is just a little over a week away, and the player's packs have been ordered and are in the hands of the brown crew at UPS. I created a little Google Map to follow the progress of the shipment and have tried to embed it in this blog post, but I can't seem to get my Google Maps to show up either in my blog posts or my "User Box." Rats.…

The other night I was sitting at a picnic table in the parking lot a block from Kira's dojo/gym putting masks on discs, and then she had an hour between classes so we spent some time playing playing putter catch. And then it was too dark to work on discs anymore, but it occured to me that on the driving range I could see all the balls in the dark so I could probably throw a white disc out there and have no trouble finding it.
I picked one of those new overstable wide rimmed discs… Continue

Texarkana, Little Rock areas tomorrow on the way home.
My entire legs are sore now, can't hardly run up and can't really throw any good shots, so needing to get home and rest soon.
Saginaw, TX- Willow Creek:
Boring, flat and wide open in a floodplain park with few trees. Seriously, if you hit a tree here, you should feel bad. Grassy, well maintained, windy. Tees marked with red posts, cement. A few long holes needing a driver or a big arm with a midrange, but the rest can… Continue

Intending to play Willow Creek, North, Arcadia #2 then drive to Texarkana tomorrow.
Crowley, TX- Bicentennial:
Similar and in complement with Z-Boaz, features many long, tough holes over varied terrain including flat grassy areas with a creek, and huge rocky hills and ridges. 20 long holes with elevation, wears you down. Triple tees, most of the middle set are cement. Sort of well marked with many temp. signs and a map, easy enough to follow. Fun, scenic and fairly balanced.… Continue

DEFINITELY planning to go home for a break now. After just 9 hole I didn't have it in me to keep going, but I did and played another 9. Just too burnt out. Not stopping until Hos reaches 1,000 if he does. Working out a good route as of now, to play along the way for about a week. Then, 2 weeks off, possibly searching for a job and apartment for winter, then back straight south in mid-october to the SE states to finish as planned. Another day or two left in DFW… Continue

Week 3 ended yesterday and I'm still putting 30 minutes a day.
Even after throwing nearly 100 holes last weekend I still made time. Progress has been great! I started 3 weeks ago only 5 steps away from the basket and now 3 weeks later I'm feeling confident from 8 steps away. Not HUGE gains but undeniable, consistent, DAILY progress toward a goal.
What's the goal? Anything better than 50% from 10 meters. I want to know when I'm inside the circle, I can step up and… Continue

Probably should have taken a day off, but I felt good and it was nice out so I didn't. I can't believe it's in the 90's in late September.
Grapevine, TX- Bear Creek:
Besides actually being a good course, it just isn't possible to play it well and enjoyably. On hole #5 I had to putt backwards down the fairway instead of at the basket, due to ivy vines blocking my entire route. If you follow through on the drive on 3 holes, your hand will brush a poison ivy vine. If you go off… Continue
