Timmons Back Nine - Back to Par

I went to Timmons to play the front nine but a guy was teeing off on #2 with five or six discs, so I teed off on #10. I bogeyed #10 and #11 to started off up two strokes. But then I birdied #14 and #17 and parred my way out. That's not a particularly good round but it sure beats what I have been throwing since I started playing again. As I was about to tee off on #11 a fellow from Galveston, TX came over and introduced himself and his girlfriend. They are vacationing in the area and have played… Continue

Fairly disappointing set of courses

To anyone planning a FL disc golf tour, going south of Sarasota before heading to Miami is not necessary in my opinion. These 5 courses in SW Florida can be skipped and you won't miss much.

It got up into the 80's today, ridiculous.

North Ft. Myers, FL- North Ft. Myers Community:Note: About half the course IS decent. Sadly half is not. Way too many fairway-less (and I mean with NO fairway, just a forest of palmettos to throw over, with 1 hole forcing you to go over… Continue

Happy Halloween

ooooh. eeeek. Its that scary time of year. The scariest sound is a rattlling chain followed by the soft thunk of plastic on the grass or perhaps the harsh sound of metal with no rattling chains at all. Even scarier? A gorgeous day and the reality of work and regular life. Maybe I will throw at the practice basket tonight when the neighborhood urchins come in search of sugar. That's about it. However, I will get out there over the… Continue

White Post

This blog post is going to be a work in progress for a few days, but the recent post to my wall motivated me to go to work on it.

This is my current inventory of white plastic suitable for dying with sports logos, cartoon characters and the like. I'll get weights listed eventually.

In the white cube:

2 Star Aviar Beadless

2 Star Aviar Big Bead

2 Star Beast

4 Star Coyote

3 Star Destroyer

2 Star Firebird

10 Star Eagle

4 Star… Continue

Top 10/"G's Discs"

I played one of must-be top 10 favorite HOLES today, not whole course. I played it 2 years ago as well. #18, Tocobaga. It's just sweet, check the pictures. Not well designed, kind of unfair and tight, but the shot is sick, it's beautiful, you throw AT the bay if you are RHBH and try to hyzer back and not flip over. Just awesome. There was a sea-creature exoskeleton on top of the basket even, and the beach within the 10m circle.

"Where's Joe, Joe are you here?"-… Continue

It's a good day to be alive.

Pounding on the door invades my dreams. Screaming and pounding, pounding and screaming. When I finally wake up I look at the clock. It's a little past 3:00 in the morning. Becky is heading toward the door. Maddisen is yelling having been startled awake. Most of the people in our building know that Becky is a nurse. It happens about once every two years. A knock in the middle of the night. Someone needs first aide or wants to know if they should go to the ER. But this was different. There was… Continue

Timmons Back Nine with Ken and Lynn

I got a voice mail from Cooper as I pulled into Timmons today. He left a message saying that my phone had been disconnected. So I called home and the answering machine picked up. Then I called Copper to see what he was talking about. He had called using my home phone prefix and my cell number. He said that way he would catch me where ever I was! I have been off work for a couple of weeks, so he told me that nothing special was going on there. Ken and Lynn were coming off the front nine as I… Continue

Timmons Front Nine - A Little Improvement

I played the front nine at Timmons today at +2. That isn't much of a score but it's a big improvement over what I have been throwing. My putting was much better today. That is a huge relief as I was starting to believe that I just can't putt. But other than drop-ins I only had 4 putts. I drained two of them from the 15-20 foot range, then I missed one that was off-balance from 25-30 feet out. I finished on 9 with a 20 to 25 foot putt that a tree had the right side of the chains blocked. I had… Continue

Getting dark

Side notes:

For anyone wondering why I am 'skipping' some of the best courses, it's because I already played them before no worries.

Already played: Clearwater, Largo, Dunedin, Sarasota, Brandon, St. Petersburg, Most of Orlando, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville.

I will probably be at Cliff Stevens around 8-9am tomorrow morning to play there again. Anyone know what time G's opens? I need a golden retriever first!

Might even play Tocobaga again, then head to Ft Myer… Continue

Coldsnap

It's funny that they turn on the heaters and wear winter clothes when it drops down to 50 degrees here.

Thanks goes out to Reese from FLY-18 for the comped round and the cart and the info. on Lutz. And more thanks for last time 2 years ago on the now extinct Riverside CA course.

Dunedin, FL- Hammock:Small enough park that you can eventually find it all, but there are two distinct entrances I went to the wrong one first and had trouble finding the 1st tee, even with the… Continue

I love my TeeBird!!!

Tonight I went to the final league night of the season. On hole 26 I had a 250 foot blind approach down a hill and when I lofted out my TeeBird, it swung out gently and the next thing I heard was chains. It was agonizing to wait for the others to play their shots before I could run up to see if it stuck and there she was just hanging in the chains!

Gotta love the TeeBird for those fairway drives!

A New Found Love of the Game

I have recently discovered that I love playing disc golf. This may sound ridiculous to many so let me explain. I started playing in December 2006. I can still remember the feeling I had after playing a few holes. Oh boy was I hooked. Then playing became an obsession. At first it was okay, I was getting my game down, meeting new people, and feeling that "first round excitement" I got that first day I played in December. A change started taking place after that first year and I didn't even… Continue

All Hollows Heave

I was in my first real tourny this weekend out at Ammon Ranch here in Humboldt County, All Hollows Heave. What a great tourny to start with. I met people from all over the state and country, including a guy who was a disc golfer from Bowling Green KY, and if I remember right, the president of a disc golf club there. He was saying that it was the funnest tourny that he had attended, and was talking about trying to move out here, that the courses were that cool (there is a reason that Dave… Continue

Keeping up appearances

Yes that's in reference to an obscure british comedy show.

So today I went to the Red Hawk in shorts and a T-shirt, everyone else was in winter coats it was mid-40's. I thought the looks were because it was 'cold'. But no, it's because there is a DRESS CODE because it's on a golf course. Lucky I had other clothes, but I dunno..I think it might be prudent to say that there is a DRESS CODE in the COURSE DIRECTORY!! Makes sense right? Have no fear I will update it, as usual. Kind of… Continue

Timmons - Back Nine and Still Struggling

I played the back nine at Timmons today and finished at +5. Getting back to playing is much more of a struggle than I anticipated. I'm throwing well enough to score much better, but I am off enough that things really go south on me. After the PCP putting I really thought that my putting would be improved but my putting is worse than ever. I was very confident in my putting after the PCP program but after having this miserable cold I don't know if my putting is off because I am really bad or if… Continue

2008 United States Doubles Championship

DSC_3804

So I arrived in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday night before the start of the USDGC Doubles Championship. I made the 8 hour drive down from Ohio with my friend Steve Mills and pulled up to Billy Crump's house to spend the weekend. Feldberg, Climo and Schultz just arrived that day as well, early enough to get some rounds in at Winthrop Gold, Renaissance and Honests Nest… Continue
