What crazy weather here in Charleston over the past few weeks. I played to the basket placements this morning at Hampton Park and it was around 60 and windy and rainy. Since the first of November I have played to the basket placements at Hampton Park several times and the temperatures have been between 38 and upper 70's. Hopefully we get good weather for the Charleston Classic this coming weekend because today reminded me of the Sunday of the 2006 tournament without the cold.

There were 4 courses there not just the 2 listed in my 2008 guide, so I made it a day-trip and played all 4 by 1:00pm in cold rain. Soaked to my knees by the end and with no pictures, but dry feet.
I now intend to be home by December 15th, whatever the count.

Well designed and laid out, about 2/3 short and tight but fair and varied, 1/3 longer and open. Several significant water hazards- #2 on an 'island' surrounded by 2… Continue

Albemarle, NC- Fox Chase:
Close to being great and with a few key changes it could be. Well maintained, clean, signs, tees. Signs sometimes wrong- by length and showing a long tee that just IS NOT THERE. I wonder if they are planned but never got made. Massive hilly wooded terrain, several very steep climbs. Begins with 2 must have dueces, then a tricky 420' hyzer along woods to a basket on a hill, followed by a 500' straight shot lined with rough. The last 2/3 are all in old forest on… Continue

I finally did it!!!!! I finally shot better than a 66 at my home course!!! Today during our weekly mini I shot a 62. Wooohoooo!!! I'm so relieved. It's so nice to break through those plateaus you hit while improving. To make it even better (in my mind anyway) it could have been lower. I missed a couple pretty easy putts that could have made it a 60. But I'm too happy to worry about what could have been. I just really felt like I played well finally.

It wasn't the lowest score ever. It was just the series of events as I connected and reconnected with my true guiding force, some force outide of myself that when you stand on the tee, your body knows exactly what it's doing and the mind gets out of the way. Routine, yes. Good habits, etc. But, there's the unexplicable. And of course, that means I can't explain it.
So, it's hole #12 at DeLaveaga and I'm sitting 1 over. I need birdies and hole 12 is just that. Thumber thuds by the… Continue

Played a decent round of doubles today with Justin, Brian, Kenny, Tim, Chase, Derek, and a couple of others I think. It came down to the last hole: Justin/Colby were tied with Brian/myself but we took it with a birdie on 18. Really fun post-Thanksgiving round. -7 today with 10 birdies. Wasn't too happy about the 3 bogeys - especially in a doubles round. But always a fun group. Hope to keep this up this weekend at the mini.

This is what is wrong with this country: Wal-Mart employee killed by stampede of shoppers. Not only are they shopping at Wal-Mart, but most probably can't afford and shouldn't be stocking up on crap they don't need (to give away) in this terrible economy. What kind of person breaks down doors to get to a sale and then proceeds to kill someone? Sickening.
Ran into Stan again last round towards the end of the round, got some cool local stickers!
Tomorrow: Fox Chase in… Continue

Today is my birthday and FINALLY I get rid of the "cursed" age of 15. My friends have teased me for that for over two weeks, and now the waiting is over. The same routine probably goes on next year as well, but at least I can relax the rest of this year.
Yesterday evening there was a pleasant surprise when the chairman of our disc golf club was knocking our door and there he was standing with two cups and congatulating me for being selected as the my hometown's sportsman of the year. This… Continue

After Thanksgiving dinner with my friend Short Bobby and his family I drove over to the Easley course to play a few holes before sunset. I arrived after 4:30 and the course was covered up with large groups of newbies playing. They all seemed to be having a good time with a new game. I hope to see many of them back as regular players in the future.
I played holes 1 - 5 and 15 - 18 or what I call the Short Nine. I ended up +5 but really didn't play that poorly. I did putt that poorly… Continue

Gee, sometimes this game sucks! I commented today to my playing partner that I dont think I've played as much as I have recently, but my game is going backwards, not forwards. Its crazy, my driving is getting longer and better, my midrange game is good, but my putting is BAD. I'm trying everything to get it back to how it was, but nothing is working. Practice each day, changing putters/stance/grip, I'm trying everything. But I think im onto it, I think I'm over analyzing each putt. Its… Continue

We hope everyone has a fine Thanksgiving.
I was reminded Wednesday of just how wonderful disc golf is; how well it can fit into your life. Tuesday evening, Matt Cunningham called me. He's a former local guy who moved back to Rhode Island a few years ago and was in town for the long weekend. He set up a round at Bandemer Park at 2 pm Wednesday. Mark Ellis and Scott Aikens also showed up for the round.
We started on Hole 4, because the out-of-towners parked at the South end… Continue

Today was my first round in North Carolina.

So early this year after my first tournament (a dismal performance @ Bowling Green) I decided to focus on my game & set a goal of getting my rating to 900+ this year. To start the 08 season I was 852, after BG 842. Lots of practice & a couple dozen rated rounds later I hit 900 even with today's update!
I'll now focus on consistency. Putting, putting, putting. I think my weak point now is still a mid range putt 25-33ft. I'm pretty confident in longer "putts" that I can jump.… Continue
