No course to review

I didn't get to play anything new today, and won't for several more. Tomorrow I'll go re-play the 2006 Worlds courses. Today I spent 3 hours working on the course at IDGC again, then played 9 holes on WR Jackson with some guys. Then, followed a group to see how the new course plays and get an idea how to play it when Tuesday rolls on. I could not throw so it was frustrating, but I got some ideas.

That's it.

Wintertime Golf

Its that time of year again. Time for me to seem like a certifiable idiot. The last time I wrote a significant blog update here, about my game, was early August and following my win at the Kingston Open. Its actually been a pretty eventful set of months since then. I won another one, at Rolling Hills in September. I've taken a lot of 2nd place finishes, including a tie for 2nd at a B-Tier in Upper Sandusky. Just recently I played a pair of C-Tiers, the Bark at the Moon in Temperance and the… Continue

Players Cup Practice

Went out to the Plantation Inn this morning for my "first" practice round. By "first", I mean a round with no extra shots, which I rarely do. I want to see how my score will change when it comes down to tournament play. While driving out this morning, it was pouring. I was considering getting a cart due to the rain, but as soon as I tuned on 19, blue skies and gorgeous Florida weather.

I love the enviornment of the Plantation Inn. The setting is great, and I love the mixing of ball golfers… Continue

Marital Harmony Sale

No, I'm not selling marital harmony. I'm selling off my inventory to balance the family budget book.

For our last two tournaments I bought discs like I expected the tournaments to be successful and well attended like last year. I came up about 100 players short of what I was hoping for. 100 player packs, 100 players worth of prizes, we're talking 2 grand here. Plus I was a little over-exuberant when I was ordering, so its worse than that.

I cannot carry that inventory on… Continue

I have finally done it. Still have to call Greg and ask, but I believe he has 1 course to play on the way up before the round on Tuesday.

Today I played #999, putting me above Greg for the most courses played! It didn't really sink in that today would be the day that would happen, which is it's own milestone, until most of the way through the round.

I spent the thunderstorming morning working inside the IDGC, data-entry, cleaning, and most importantly watching the 2000 PAW… Continue

So most people who have read my blogs or posts know that I am a forehand dominate player.

~ Well not anymore.

Over the last 2 months me and some buddies have been practicing at this field that has lights (because we do not have time to play in the daytime anymore.) We were basically in it to improve on distance as my local course is a long one with 4 par 4s and a 5. Dont know the footage, but a pro ranked in the top 50 in the world shot 9 down to give you a feel for how… Continue

Working through my Disc Golf time...

I drive to work as the sun rises and when i drive home its dark. The overtime is worth it...but i can only throw like once a week now. I can't believe nate doss can hold a full time job, go to school, and be the best. I'll be fine for now since its so cold out, but once it starts getting nice again this job is going to really start pissing me off I think. Can anyone relate to that? I would imagine there are tons of us disc golf junkies working all day, i'm just new to the crowd and need to know… Continue

Jim Warner Memorial course (the 1,000th course) is officially playable!

Everyone check out www.pdga.com for a new article about our round next Tuesday!

The baskets just went in last night, and it's already been played once. I spent most of the daytime working on it (getting paid too), fixing up teeing areas, moving debris, cutting trees etc. In the cold rain dripping wet. I cannot play it myself until the 18th with Hos, but now I can get the idea what I am in for.

After working on that and dodging rain off and on, I went out to play the… Continue

Greer - Trial Run

I took today and tomorrow off work to burn my annual leave down to the maximum carry over for the year. I thought that I would call Bill and go to Greer to try the new layout, but it was raining this morning. I called Bill late in the morning and we checked the radar and decided to give it a try in the early afternoon. We arrived and started playing when another car pulled up and a guy started playing. It was Steve O. and he quickly caught us and joined us for the round. Steve is much better… Continue

US Olympic Petition

If you haven't already, click the link above and sign the petition to get Disc Golf added to the US Olympics. If they're going to let Badminton into the games, then why not Disc Golf? Let's get some recognition here.

Ugh...getting colder. I haven't played enough this year. I'm almost ashamed of myself. I try to get around to all the local courses once each year (and there are many), but I fell very… Continue

So I went to parmalee today for the first time since it was reinstalled the course was taken out due to vandalism in 2005 or 2006 .

I haven't played there since 2005 ( i think) and i was still learning the game and I remember thinking the course was very hard but since then i have learned a lot.

First thing i noticed is most of the holes were very short ,i used my avair for every hole but i think 5 of the longer holes.

The course is very wooded with a lot of throw and… Continue

I've made it. After 3 rounds I made it to the IDGC this afternoon, where Karolyn Garlock, former fellow Michigander and now PDGA staffer offered to put me up for the week. Me and Brian Graham walked a few holes of the 30-minute old Jim Warner Memorial course (the 1000th round course), and everyone went to a Mexican restaurant for a local club meeting. Now I'm watching the new Knight Rider and burping beans.

Raleigh, North Carolina - sustainability and disc golf

Sunday I flew to Raleigh, NC for a meeting of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), which I attended for my job partly because I had helped to create the association just about three years ago, originally serving on its board. About 2,000 students, administrators, and faculty from colleges and universities in several countries spent two and a half days networking. It was a great time meeting lots of old colleagues and friends and new people, plus… Continue

Try'in to bring in a new generation of DG'ers!

I've been bringing my two 13 year old nephew's along when playing a round of DG lately, it's kinda fun to watch their love of the game grow. They are twins and even though the look, act, ect. alike, it seems that Tom is finding much easier to play than John.

One of the problems is that John is a "Lefty" so with me being a RHBH thrower I've got to remember to show him everything backwards so were both working on that angle. Tom seems to be able to get the idea of "snap" much better… Continue
