The New Year

Here in MIchigan the snow is falling once again, crushing the recent hopes that spring was coming sooner than usual. I have been blessed with being able to play several rather warm rounds this week because of the odd weather we have been having. But the season is already underway! There are a couple of options this week as far as tournament play goes, and I hope that if you are in the area of either you get out there and play. If you are near Lansing the CCR is putting on the Ice Berg Open on… Continue

good Karma

I was at Cedar Hills last Friday with my friend Scott and his brother Steve, who had never played disc golf before.

It was a beautiful day in Texas and even though the wind was crazy , at Lester Lorch park the wind doesn't come into play that much .

it was nice to be playing a round with a beginner, and we talked about his days of playing ultimate back in the day.

on hole 12 of the Coyote course I over drove with my custom dye Wraith and we couldn't find… Continue

Variation

"Three monkeys" that had been published before made the sculpture that existed in "Nikkou" of World Heritage a radical. Then, I thought about the variation next.

"It did not see, it did not listen, and did not speak" was made "Let's saw, listened, and said".

It was very popular though this design had become… Continue

The best gift I could get around the holidays.

No, it wasn't a new Destroyer, nor was it a Revo bag. Nope, I already have a Mach III, it wasn't that either.

So, what was it, you ask?

Simply put, it was friendship, that's all.

About a week ago, a couple friends and myself decided to take a little road trip on Saturday back to my old stomping grounds. I moved about an hour away just over a year ago. The guys that went with me are guys that I started playing with after I moved and one had to cancell at the last… Continue

29 Hours

Without electricity! Having a record high the day it shut off was not a good thing- all my food is spoiled and the basement is flooding. Now it's 44 degrees inside, with 4 cats 2 dogs and a parrot. No running water as we have a pump. No shower for 2 days, but I did spend 6 hours at work waiting in the cold reading, hoping the power would come on downtown but it never did either. DTE won't give an estimate for time and you cannot contact a human being by phone there. I have to work again at 10… Continue

Trip Home for First Time in Over 3 Years

Went home to Washington for the first time since April 2005. Somehow the cold followed me from Michigan and we arrived to a 10 year storm. Winds from the northeast out of Canada and two feet of snow. I had to shovel my parents driveway numerous times just so I could get into town.

We did not get to play all the new courses that we were planning on, but did get to play the new course close to home. It is on an old camp ground that has been usused… Continue

Lima, Peru

Tomorrow morning, very early, we head to where we are probably out of any communications loop for a week. So we thought we’d take a stab at a brief blog about the trip so far.

Ben drove us to the Detroit airport, along a very slippery I-94, with cars off the road all around us, where we got through security and on board perfectly. Our airplane then moved away from the runway and sat for more than two hours. Atlanta, the location of our transfer, had been closed and all flights into… Continue

The DEW

The DEW -- The Downtown Emma & Wade.

Thats what we named it. Today it was 55 degrees in Southwest Michigan. the previous few days, everything has been one suicidal sheet of ice. Until today, everything melted...the rain helped though. You know what that means...yup...disc golf. but wait a minute...Wade and I had no car, and no money for a bus to either knollwood or oshtemo DGC. Sooooo....we decided to improvise alittle bit.

We borrowed a portable metal basket from Wade's… Continue

Safely in Peru

My parents have arrived safely in Lima, Peru around midnight- after a 3 hour delay on the Tarmac due to an airport closing. Just getting there was bad- icy highway meant countless cars in ditches. Now back home we are getting record highs- up to 63, to melt all the snow the day they bask in 90+ degree heat and 100% humidity.

Christmas round

It's 3 and we haven't eaten or opened presents in the Calhoun house yet, so I went out to try to play 9 holes.

The thick ice layer on top of the foot of snow made it a joke to throw with any accuracy, or even without twisting an ankle. It wasn't too cold, but it was tough to walk that far through that stuff, having to lift your leg straight up with each step and chase down long sliding shots.

Hope everyone else at least made it out… Continue

Greer - Christmas Morning Fog

I had decided to play Greer on Christmas morning if the weather held out. Christmas Eve was pretty wet but it was supposed to clear off for Christmas. It was still damp out on Christmas morning and slightly foggy, so I decided to give it a shot. As I approached Greer from Greenville the fog grew thicker and thicker. Even though it was hazardous to drive my truck, I figured that since I am such a short thrower that I would have no trouble following my throws to their conclusions. I stepped up to… Continue

Berzerkeley

Officially looking for a partner. Would prefer to play Pro Masters--would consider Open. Lefty partner would be ideal -- but mostly would just like someone who's 80% or better inside the circle.

Really!!!!! Your gonna have to convince me better why Discraft is better tha Innova!!!

Okay, I live in Eugene Oregon. And here we Fly under the Innova Flag. If we lived in Middle ages era. I would live deep in the heart of England. And for some reason I keep hearing that those Italian Disc's "Discraft" are far more superior to my english gear.

The 1 reason I ask is I throw Xcal's, Destroyers, Sidewinder's, Valks, Tbirds. I have 12 destroyers, and love em all. But the thing that gets me is that I bought 3 at once. And all seemed fairly consistent to each other. 6 months… Continue

Treehaven - Matching Baskets program

I just submitted a request to the Disc Golf Foundation under the College Matching Baskets program.

The program will match the purchase of up to nine baskets, if the course is on University property and available for the public to play.

I am very optimistic that something good is going to happen...
