BRRRR Cold and Windiest Day i've ever played

Just played a couple of rounds in rainy, windy cold, i mean cold and windy, not exaggerating in the slightest, and i only shot 4 worse than my average on this course. played with some pros, advanced and a grandmaster. i noticed 1 thing that set them apart from me. i thought they would all outdrive me to no end, but found that i was in their ballpark most of the time although they were slightly more accurate. their techniques were all different from each other and i noticed no one was trying to… Continue

Poison Ivy Open 2009

Happy Holidays Everyone,

I would like to share some info with anyone who cares.

It is very unlikely that the Poison Ivy Open will take place this year, or possibly ever again in Bear Creek Park.

This all due to the Complete Unwillingness of the golfers that regularly play that course to behave in an acceptable manner in the eyes of the neighborhood assn. of the neighborhood that borders the park.

In spite of all the warnings and the fact that several… Continue

I'm dreaming of a White Round of Golf on Christmas Eve.

Current air temperature in DFW is 37 and the radar is awash in yellow, red, and orange, with a little green thrown in for fun. Today's high was 39 and that occured earlier this morning. The wind is from the west/northwest at about fifteen for now but around noon will pick up to 25-30 mph.

The weatherman says the snow was supposed to start blowing at nine this morning but it's a quarter past and nothing yet. Although when I look at the radar, we're right on the edge of the front so it could… Continue

The most coolest thing on way to golf....

On Saturday morning 12,19,09 i was on my way to golf at Roosevelt park, Albuquerque, NM. It was our Saturday singles tourney taking place and i was excited to get out and give some comp to the locals. So i set out on the road about half an hour before tourney started to pick up a bud and head on down. The course is not far at all, about 10 minutes from my house. So, i set out and my car i cannot trust. The gas gauge is broken so most of the time i'm going off instinct, hope in order to get… Continue

Found 1 of 2!!!

A couple months ago my youngest got into my bag and pulled all my discs out and scattered them all around the house. Well today while searching for a missing cookie sheet I found 1 of the 2 discs that I couldn't find. I was getting ready to make some candies and relized I needed anothet cookie sheet to let them cool on. So knowing that at one time I had 3 I pulled out the drawer under my stove that I store them in and found 3 more cookie sheets 1 was my lost 1 and 2 more that were from the… Continue

Doubles Best Shot - I like it!!

Played my first Doubles Round today, with a bunch of guys who all just moved from Disc Golf Nation Kalamazoo, MI. i was like, why would you leave there, its the Mecca of Disc Golf? lol. so, they thought I was cool from that point on I guess. Got lots of compliments today, and they thought i was lying about only playing since August, so that was a great feeling and I noticed that positive encouragement from others works pretty darn good too, better than my self-motivation inside my head. We… Continue

Todays Bag Tag Round at Pickwick

Well to set the stage, it was gorgeous out today, upper 50's and sun beaming down. Got out to Pickwick Plantation and did some warm up putts. Started off the round Par Par Bird. Shot great till hole 8 and closed out the front 9 +2. Hit the back nine and found my snap.

Great one would think. Snap is a great thing to have. That is unless your bag is mostly under stable discs. I am actually thrilled that I found my snap. But I now have to look into new Discs. I know what I am going to… Continue

Tapped Into a Treasure Trove Today

Ben and I bought part of an old-timer's collection today and we've been going through the boxes like excited kids on Christmas morning. The collection puts us over 3,500 discs in stock at The Throw Shop, but these new additions are very cool.

We'll be open from 11-5 tomorrow, Sunday, and we've got the tee pads at The Ponds of Lakeshore nicely cleaned off.

Above, unthrown: a 173-gram… Continue

Gained 100ft in 3 weeks

About 10 weeks ago, I finally eclipsed the 250ft mark, hitting 275 for first time and then soon after that, it became my average up until 3 weeks ago.

3 weeks ago, I started to reach 300ft about 2 out of 10 throws and about 2 weeks ago started hitting 300 consistently and then began sometimes reaching 320.

On Saturday (2days ago), I felt like I beat that, but wasn't sure because the field I was throwing on had no footage, and yesterday (Sunday), I threw a few feet past… Continue

Obsessed, should I see a doctor?

Ok, now been playing for 4 months and not a day goes by that I don't either post to this site or think about Disc Golf. My love has always been football, for years and years, still is, but now it will come 2nd if the wife is game to watch the kids and the weather is suitable for playing.

I dream about it, daydream about it, and can't get my hand on that "Next" disc soon enough, because I'm still trying to figure out what discs I like and work best for me. Right now, I have several… Continue

Ace #2!!

I just got back from a single round "club flight" mini tourney and I must say I have a smile on my face :). Mostly that's because I carded my second ace in a round--first in a tourney--on hole 12 at Albert Oakland's Back Course! Once again my ace came from a thumber that bounced/skipped up and in. This time I threw a 169g Z Avenger. As an added bonus, it was also my first time winning our club's Ace Pool!

Unsurprisingly, carding a "1" was also a key point in my round, as the ace… Continue
