I threw my first PDGA ace yesterday (fourth ace overall) at the Jefferson City Open C-tier. I pretty much played terribly all day, but one shot made up for it all. Once again, my ace came from throwing the trusty ol' thumber. For the second round hole #4 was set up short (260ish?) and left, a completely blind shot tucked behind a row of cedars. I knew it looked good, and I was just hoping not to hear cedar, when I heard a solid and resounding "CHING." Our entire group's eyes lit up as we ran up… Continue

This weekend I won my first PDGA sanctioned tourney, playing Intermediate! It was the Old Settler's Open at Prairie Center Park in Olathe, KS--a one-day C-tier on 9/4/10. I had never played the course before, but the prospect of playing a Dynamic Discs Tourney at a new course led me to drive the 2+ hours each way to play. Boy, was that drive worth it. I've been pushing for my first PDGA win all season, and I finally got it with a few months to spare. Given that my goal was to win at least one… Continue

I played in singles league yesterday (7/19/10) at Indian Hills and had a great time! I shot even par--with 5 birdies--and placed 1st in our Am division. (I would have placed 2nd in Pro if I had followed through on the move-up talk I had when registering.) My highlight came on my first hole (#3) when I threw in a Wizard from about 125'+ for a birdie two and a skin on the tough deuce hole--my first ever two there. But after the round came an even cooler reward. I am currently in possession of the… Continue

I just got back from a single round "club flight" mini tourney and I must say I have a smile on my face :). Mostly that's because I carded my second ace in a round--first in a tourney--on hole 12 at Albert Oakland's Back Course! Once again my ace came from a thumber that bounced/skipped up and in. This time I threw a 169g Z Avenger. As an added bonus, it was also my first time winning our club's Ace Pool!
Unsurprisingly, carding a "1" was also a key point in my round, as the ace… Continue

I threw my first ACE today at #16 on Albert Oakland's bottom course here in Columbia, MO!! I used a 174g Champion Monster, threw a thumber, and it bounced up and straight in. I've been wanting that one bad and I threw an identical shot that missed a foot left just yesterday, so it feels that much better. The best part was that twelve people witnessed it!! After so many close calls, I must say it feels good to finally join the Ace Club!

I just got back from playing Indian Hills. I love going there when I really want a challenge, as it is easily the most difficult course in my area. Good mix of longer, open holes and EXTREMELY tight, wooded holes. I wasn't terribly mad with my 60 today, but I (always) wish my putting was better--more consistent. I guess the highlights were: 1) hitting the chains dead center and bouncing out for a birdie 2 on hole 3 with an approximately 100-foot anhyzer, and 2) my monster hyzer on hole 6, and… Continue
