One last course..

I just played another course for a total of just over 100 holes today (I played 2 courses twice).

Top Secret, CA- Area 74:Literally, private and unlisted, only open to those who are respectful and know about it. I can't even say for sure where it was..

Dirt tees, homemade tone poles, no signs. Long and challenging though, through Redwood forest, with massive stumps and trees. Lots of high grass, ferns, rocks, dirt. Barely carved out enough to be throwable but it works.… Continue

Congratulations to my parents, both in the lead after the first round(s) at worlds it seems!

Box scores have my Mom at 1 stroke ahead in Am Master Women after 2 rounds, my Dad tied for the lead after 1 round in Am Senior Grand Masters! Chance for husband/wife worlds title simultaneously. Rest well and don't blow it this time Dad!

California style disc golf is living up to last time..hard to navigate, crappy tees, rough courses and blind tight lines. I hope this time it will be better, I wasn't too impressed last time but after this trip I'll have played near half the courses… Continue

Weed; CA

I am staying with Chris (Humchris), thanks Chris.

Weed seems to be the theme of California, not only did I play in Weed, CA, but a guy at a rest stop came up and asked if I had some Ganja? to spare! I knew I was in California.

Medford, OR- Holmes City:9 baskets with 27 rubber tees. Tees are a bit beat up and torn, but have metal plaques showing #, length, etc. Well marked, has map. On a dusty hill in a smallish park, with patches of dirt mixed with patches of dying grass.… Continue

Scratch golf

Because that's what happens to your skin if you play some of the courses in Grants Pass. Both my hands were bleeding and had to borrow a machete to retrieve a disc.

I didn't feel well today, not sick but a headache and indigestion. Played about as bad as I felt. We'll see what's up tomorrow.

Grants Pass (Merlin), OR- Indian Mary:Short and mostly open, one tunnel hole and a few with some tree cover. In a campground, busy with kids running around, RV's coming and going. 2$ and… Continue

Whistler's Bend :)

Is as good as it gets for a fun round of disc golf. I wish I had time and energy for a 2nd round but I needed to keep moving.

I met DJ from here at Riverfront and played a round with him there. He's not so bad in person!

Roseburg, OR- Riverfront:Short and tight in mostly flat, dying grass field full of Oak trees and an equal amount of poison oak blended in. Not much danger to get into, and a few holes have some length. Skips skip hard and missed putts can pick up… Continue

Made it to the Pacific Ocean

Thanks again, Ray and Beth.

Today I played these first two rounds with Ray, then took off southwest towards the Ocean to play the last two. The temperature dropped 20 degrees in half an hour as I got closer to the water! It was cold enough to give me goosebumps.

Eugene, OR- Westmoreland:Nice land for disc golf if not a bit lacking in trees. Good length, a few short gimmies but a few more in the 280-350' range. Some small hills around the park are often used. Holes… Continue

Thanks, Avenger Ray/Stellardiscgirl

I am staying at their place tonight, they showed me around the last 2 rounds.

Albany, OR- Bryant:Half in a typical park setting of flat grassy areas bordered by park roads, spaced out trees. 2 holes along a river, to get wet you have to fight through tall nasty blackberry bushes. The other half was recently bulldozed out of thick woods, lots of thorns, bugs, spiders. It's hardly playable, and even harder to believe there was a tournament there last weekend. Unclean fairways as… Continue

Relaxing day at Eric Mathais' place before heading out of Portland

Today we just chilled all day, ate, cleaned up, packed, then played doubles at Timber Park which I've already played. Also played a few holes at Milo because someone found Eric's disc and returned it to him there today. I got a new player as a partner and we did not cash, my fault. He is really good for 1.5 months..already throwing 325' and getting it to curve the way he wants, impressive.

We also went to DISC GOLF DEPOT in Portland, Oregon for some cheap… Continue

Milo McIver State Park, Estacada, Oregon- I have arrived

at the Top course in not just the Northwest, but of this entire leg of the trip (not including Idlewild), beating out anything from Ohio across to Kansas, up to North Dakota, over to Montana and finally Oregon.

Special thanks to Eric Mathias for the few nights hook up and the rounds there today, and the disc, and breakfast.

I tore it apart the first round, shooting 83 (27 holes, course par something like 89/90-long tees to long pins). Probably played the best round overall… Continue

Milo McIver..tomorrow

So far I'm not too impressed by Oregon courses. Not many really bad, just most kinda rough/hard to navigate/less than 18 holes/not challenging. I also haven't played the top rated ones yet however, Milo, Whistler's Bend, etc.

Salem, OR- Cascades Gateway:Fairly open in large fields, with some patches of trees, and a few holes along edges of woods. Thick nasty blackberry bushes could ruin your day on a bad shot on a few holes. 2 holes play close enough to a lake to get wet. Flat… Continue

Good weather

It was less than 70, sunny and breezy today. Could get used to that for August.

Portland, OR- Portland Lunchtime DGC:On the grounds of a large religious cult. Surprisingly long, with two holes over 500' and a few more over 400', with only 12 holes. Plays along the parking lot and entrance road, near buildings on 2 holes, then goes out into a field, down into some woods and back across the field. Very hilly, the first basket can be troublesome to sail past downhill. Several… Continue

Today was a burn. I drove 45 miles to Mt. Hood, after calling and they said they were open. I get there and they just closed, due to rain. I wasted 15$ in gas and 2 hours of my time, leaving no other close enough to play courses today, so only got 3 done. And had to play in rain non-stop. Gore-tex socks were sweet though.

Corbett, OR- Benson State Park: Technically not in Corbett have to change that. Shortttt, longest about 250', one hole is 99'. No real challenges but the… Continue

2nd place of 30 teams tonight at doubles

I got the only person I knew there for a partner, what are the odds. Eric Mathais who I've played with before in 04,05,06. We tore it up pretty well, he made a 200' fairway ace. My shot took 2nd for us in the 1st place playoff. Like I always say..give me a partner who can putt. I got one.

THURSDAY continued:

Portland (Troutdale)- Dabney State Park:Tough, rough course. Several holes along a ridge, with thick thorns and a long way to go down if you go down. And… Continue
