Chenault Disc golf : The local pitch and putt rich in history

For Christmas Eve I played 3 putter rounds at the local pitch and putt.  Most people who play at my home course make fun of it but in reality they just do not appreciate the history of the location.  Located on the east side of Monroe, LA, it is one of a few remaining object courses made for frisbees back in the 60's.  The "baskets" are somewhat large concrete "cups" in the ground with most shots ranging from 180-245 feet.  With an exception of a few younger cats like myself, the course is…

Weekday Rounds!

With day light being a precious commodity this time of year I seldom get to play week day disc golf.  However I have been blessed with not one, but two rounds so far this week!  It was a good thing too as this last round really helped me understand certain flaws in my existing throw.  At this point, my biggest issue is nose down. ( No I lie, my biggest issue is putting, but lets ignore that for now :) )  I can tear up short courses with buzzes and aviars, but distances out side of 350ft has… Continue

Tracking Progress

It has been a long time since I have posted here.  I plan on tracking my putting practices here so I can be hold accountable for it.  I have been studily increaing my skill level and I am now placing or winning most AM tournaments I play in.  If I could work out my putt, I will be ready to move up to Advanced.

Knee feeling a little better

Went out and played @ the pitch and putt and got second in the random draw mini. Knee is still really tender and I can not perform a run-up. I can one step a Roc 280, which is the longest hole length at this course. My putting was dead on (buckets not baskets). We finished at 15 under. Given the near flooded state of the course, I can not complain with the results. I plan on taking it easy again this week. Maybe start getting in some putting practice Tuesday. If I feel good I'd like to play… Continue

Knee Injury :(

Just as I was starting to feel good about my game my knee decides to go out on me. Its probably nothing toooo serious, but it has been getting worse over the last few days. Its my left knee and its swollen on the left side. Maybe after a week off it will look and feel better. Luckily I have a new phone (DROID) coming in today so I wont be bored when I have to run the random draw doubles mini and can't play. I thought about putting during the mini but since I am left handed my weight transfer… Continue

Throwing around the pivot point and getting the disc to the power zone.

There are two extremely important concepts I have finally gotten my head around about disc golf. One is understanding the power zone and the second is to throwing the disc around the pivot point. While I could sit here and explain these concepts in the detail, it would be much easier for me to direct you to the resources I used to better understand the concepts.

These videos are from a gentleman named Bradly Walker over at the discgolfreview.com forums. He does a good job…

Still working hard

I have slacked off on my drills a lot lately but have been playing a lot of disc golf. I cashed last weekend at the Ford Park Open in Shreveport, LA with 22 people in my division I was in a 3-way tie for first after the first round but started off bad in the 2nd round and could never get my confidence back on track. I managed to hold on to 6th.

Down here in the south very few tournaments are scheduled for most of July and August so I will be using these months to make some…

Rough weekend

Played in 1 tournament and 1 mini over the weekend. The Shreveport AM Championship and a random draw best shot doubles at the local pitch and putt. I was leading the AM Championship after the first round but managed to completely blow up a hole and scored a 7 on the second round. The scores were close and this hole pushed me out the top 3 when it was said and done :( The doubles mini didn't go too bad. We missed two eagles on the front 9 we could have made and ended up finishing in… Continue

Making Progress

I played a casual round with my wife and some friends yesterday and managed to make all of my putts within 50'. I was a pretty happy disc golfer! Most importantly I had a really great time. It was about enjoying the weather and having good times. While I always love playing disc golf, here lately its a been a bit more serious than normal as I have been devoting a lot of time and focus into really developing my disc golf skill set.

In about an hour I will be heading back out to the… Continue

Hit and Miss

The only way I can explain the last 2 weeks of disc golf is hit or miss. Some days I go out and throw 400', some days I struggle to hit 330. I believe this is mostly timing issues regarding my hips. It seems if the do not clear at the right time the disc slips out of my hand early and shoots off to the right(LHBH) @ about 65% of my normal distance. Going to head out play a round after work today. Maybe I will drop back on by and let ya'll now how it went.

Practice this week

Practice this week has been decent. I threw some great rounds this week and I am pretty happy with my results with an exception of putting. I have been throwing slightly nose down and have been shorting a lot of 20ft this week.

Start next week, instead of playing 5 days a week I may cut it back to 3 and spend the other 2 days at the soccor field and with my practice basket until my completion percentage increases on 30-40ft putts.

Hope everyone has had a great week!
