My hands are tie-rd...

not from throwing discs (I wish), but from wringing out tie-dye t-shirts. We're dying the shirts that will be part of the player's pack for a little fundraiser tournament on Labor Day. AJ, April and I did the tying on this most recent batch of 20 shirts and AJ and I applied the dye. We let the shirts sit for 48 hours which helps the dye really set in and get colorful. But yesterday I was on my own to rinse out the shirts, wash'em, dry'em and fold'em. Rinsing is a big task, as you have to rise… Continue

Lots of Fun at the San Marcos Ice Bowl!!!

A big thanks to everyone who came out to the San Marcos Ice Bowl at Montiel Park on Saturday, January 17th. We had a full field of 54 players on a beautiful day, including players from Arizona, Nebraska, Missouri and Sweden by way of Las Vegas. The Ace Race is just over three weeks away, and the big news is that WE NEED MORE ENTRANTS!!!!!!!

Following the Miniac, and other disc golf mapping stuff

Many of you have seen the Google maps that I have been working on to display Ben Calhoun's disc golf roadtrip. Well, my old friend Gregg Hosfeld heard about Ben's trip and decided that HE needed to be the first person to play 1,000 courses. Tour de Rizbee 2008 - New England, New Courses (Day1 &2)

I'm a bit bummed - I typed up a post yesterday about Day 1 but it somehow didn't get saved. I hate when that happens!!!

Tour de Rizbee 2008 - New England, New Courses!

I'm about to go on vacation for 11 days, 4 of which will comprise the 2008 Tour de Rizbee. For each of the past four years my son and I have done a disc golf road trip where we drive like crazy and play lots of disc golf (www.teamrizbee.com). Ready for Wii Disc Golf!!

Our household got a Wii last Christmas, and we've been playing it off and on since then. Super Mario Galaxy, The Simpsons and Guitar Hero are great, but we seem to play Wii Sports the most, particularly the golf game. Rizbee Jr. just set a milestone last night - he aced hole #2 while playing in Expert mode.

Road Trip to the O.C.

A.J., Ryan and I headed up to O.C. for a lille mini-tour yesterday. We were accompanied by Katie and one of her friends, who were probably the MVP's of the trip because they were such good sports. We stopped first at Deerfield Community Park in Irvine, which none of us had played before. Good use of park space - 3 baskets that are used twice and 6 light poles each used twice. Final Results - "How Many Courses Have You Played" Survey

Here's the final results from the "How Many" survey. The survey was completed by 120 disc golfers. As you can see from the chart above, most of the golfers who responded have played a lot of different courses since they started playing disc golf. The median number of courses played was 30, so half of the golfers surveyed had played less than 30 courses and half had played 30 or more. Updated results - "How Many Courses?" survey

OK, I received quite a few more responses to the survey - the count is now up to 102 respondents. The responses have shifted a bit more towards the "traveller" group and not so much towards the "road warrior" group, although the majority have played more than 25 courses. How many courses have you played?

This is a question that has always interested me - how many different courses have people played? I put together a quick, three question survey at this location: How Many? Survey

Do most avid disc golfers play the same course over and over and over? Or do they like to try out new sets of trees to hit and baskets to bouce out of? Once I get a decent number of responses I'll post some results.

Sunday Morning Travel Fun...

I spent a few days last week with Monica, travelling from San Diego to Des Moines by way of Chicago. Aside from all the rain we had a good trip, and we were headed back early Sunday morning, booked on a 6:05 flight out of O-Hare.

It's just plain wrong. I really don't want to hear their conversation while I'm in there, and do they think the person on the other end of the line will enjoy the sounds of flushing, etc.? Just plain wrong...
