The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
Thanks to all who braved the rain today to participate in the San Marcos Ice Bowl at Montiel Park. Fifty-one hardy souls slogged through the mud, mist and mulligans to help us celebrate the Grand Opening of San Diego County's newest disc golf course, and to generate a sizeable donation for The Angel's Depot (a North County Senior Food Bank). I will update later with totals for the donation in dollars and pounds of food, but it's safe to say this was a… Continue
Our new course was written up today in the San Diego Union Tribune: A different spin on golf
Pretty good story, including a few photos. It doesn't show up in the news feed on the front page of this site because it doesn't have the words "disc golf" in the title. I'll comment on the story later when I have more time...
Well, I'm 2 for 2 at Ice Bowls his year. Last week I won the Ice Bowl at Ford Park in Redlands, CA in a sudden-death playoff. Today was the Ice Bowl at Sun Valley Golf Course in La Mesa, CA, and I won the Advanced division, one stroke ahead of three other players and another stroke ahead of two more. The highlight of the day for me was playing on the lead card in the second round with my son, AJ. It was the first time we had ever been on a lead card together and I was very proud of the way…Continue

I'm not sure if anyone has blogged on this yet, but the world famous Shoe Tree at Morley Field in San Diego is no more.
High winds and heavy rain led to the tree's demise this past weekend. The weight of the hundreds of water-logged shoes hanging on its branches caused it to topple in the high winds. The shoe tree was a well-known San Diego landmark and definitely an icon in the disc golf world. This leaves us to wonder: "where will the next…Continue
until yesterday. Team Rizbee rolled up to Redlands, CA for their inaugural Ice Bowl event, which is part of a three-tournament Ice Bowl Series (Redlands, Palm Desert, San Marcos). A field of about 20 played 18 holes on the 9-hole Ford Park DGC. Many players were probably scared off by the "storm of the century" that was supposed to dump several inches of rain on us yesterday, but didn't show in the morning. But I digress...
Bill Maury-Holmes, the TD referred to me as a sand-bagger as…Continue
I got a call first thing this morning from the Parks Dept.: "Have you been out to mark the locations for the tees and baskets at Montiel Park? We thought you were going to use sprinkler flags and the contractor didn't see any out there." Well, I don't think I was dreaming when I adjusted the flag locations on New Year's Eve, so I guess someone had decided to "borrow" my flags. My daughter, Katie, and I high-tailed it over to the park to see what had happened. Sure enough, all of the flags…Continue
Boy, it's great to be on vacation! I can goof around with the kids all day without a care in the world. I'm on vacation until the 7th, so I'll have lots of time to putter around, work on projects, nap, etc. One of my best vacations ever was this past summer. I'm attaching the Google Earth version of our vaation tour. Download it and open it if you have Google Earth installed.Continue

If you've seen the news posting on this site about construction of a new course in San Marcos, that's the one I'm working on. We have about 8 acres of open space on a hillside that is a powerline easement. A few trees, but not many. Last week my son and I went out to stake the tee and basket locations and measure the hole lengths. Today we'll go back out to play the holes with some friends and tweak the locations a bit. Construction will start Jan. 2nd, so we're pretty excited.
