It's all in the Hips!

Happy Gilmore, quite possibly the best golfing movie ever, has actually improved my DG game. How? Well, when Chubbs was giving Happy one of his first lessons he made a point to tell Happy that "It's all in the Hips."

In DG the hip-turn is even more important than it is in ball golf. The "X-Step" footwork is the foundation for the proper hip turn and resulting shoulder turn. Most of the power in a throw is generated from the legs which rotates the hips and causes the shoulder… Continue

DNF aka I quit, waaaah

quit·ter:

–noun; a person who quits or gives up easily, esp. in the face of some difficulty, danger, etc.

Just to make this clear.

(this has nothing to do with "real" injuries or health concers.)

Unfortunately we have issues in our Club with certain members Quitting in the face of pressure, or if they are not in contention. These players know who they are and so does everyone else. It is also obvious that these players are habitual Quitters and have now made a… Continue

71 Holes

This past Wednesday I woke up to sunny skies and 73 degree temperature. After checking my cphone I noticed that Josiah had called and that could only mean dgolf.

So it began. We began the afternoon playing bag tag round at UAH. The unusually light winds allowed me to really open up and throw some monster throws(for me). I finally could feel myself pulling back with full extension allowing my head to come away from the target but yet my release was still on target. What was I doing… Continue

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

XXVI.

Alike for those who for To-day prepare,

And those that after some To-morrow stare,

A Muezzin from the Tower of Darkness cries

"Fools! Your Reward is neither Here nor There!"

XXVII.

Why, all the Saints and Sages who discuss'd

Of the Two Worlds so learnedly, are thrust

Like foolish Prophets forth; their Works to Scorn

Are scatter'd, and their Mouths are stopt with Dust.

XXVIII.

Oh, come with old Khayyam, and leave the Wise

To talk;… Continue

Delta

So I don't want everyone to get the idea that I have always been a disc golf angel or that I am one now. In the early days of tournament play in FL I definitely let my temper get the best of me on several occasions. I even took my aggression out on other players(again James, I'm sorry) and fortunately didn't lose any friends in the process. However my actions as an immature teenager has allowed me to take a step back and see how it impacts my play and the others around me. Competition can have… Continue

Sticking with the Pack

This to me is one of the most important "rules of etiquette" in disc golf, that is often ignored or loosely followed.

When I play a tournament round of dgolf everything changes including my putts, unfortunately. From the amount of jocularity to level of your voice and even the way you walk, everything changes, or at least it should. Tournament golf is serious whether you like or not. That doesn't mean that it is not fun, it just means that there are times to talk and there are… Continue

First of Many

I decided to break down and spill my guts about how I feel and what I think about Disc Golf and any other random topics I choose to "blog" about. In doing so, I hope to give a colorful perspective with a hint of sincerity and hopefully avoiding hypocrisies. So here it goes...
