I had the pleasure of a private lesson with Ron Convers recently and am now working to erase bad driving habits formed over 8 years of casual golf. in fifteen minutes, I learned a few techniques to help take my drive to the next level. I think I will name her Pinkie. My hubby bought me a 171 champ spider during the Doo Dah and day two went fabulous! she held her lines with just the right amount of fade at the end. I was impressed with the amount of control I had with a brand new disc, minimal errant shots. I did hit one tree eight foot in front of me, but I'm guessing she just wanted a little breaking in action. So, I have been working pretty consistantly on them and they have become a part of my competitive game, but they are so finnicky. I have been forehand rolling with my flick (and every so often with my avenger if I want less distance). What I need to figure out is how crosswind will affect my shot. Sometimes I think it will hold my shot up only to have it turn over. Boom boom train with the chili peppers... sweet times! the Gorillaz were kickin' it and NIN was just on the other side of the darkness. Props to Carpet and PeeWee for the sound system; I took advantage of it. My dreds were looking fine in form and my dyes were SIC! I wore a lot of cookie and nicole's dyes (Ponca crew rocks). I am pretty excited in the newest development of my game, a forehand roller. I have only been working on this for a few weeks and they already go as far as my average backhand or sidearm drive. the process started more or less as an exit strategy for sneaking out of the woods after a poor drive. Saturday was typical Kansas discgolf weather: Hot and windy with a high dose sun. Sunday was absolutelyl beautiful. The clouds rolled in just as we hit the heat of the day. could not have asked for better timing. The ACDGC did a great job of readying both Herman Hill and Oak Park. I had a pretty solid round at singles last night. no cash, but I only shot one over my handicap (which is three strokes lower that I thought). My drives felt smooth, backhand and forehand. I only threw one UD which, as usual, was extremely consistant. I didn't miss a single put from 15ft in and only one or two from 20. I never ended up in the rough, very rare for 18 holes + kile. I actually made it to doubles the other night( thanks to the tornado warning friday night causing a postponement until Saturday). I was pretty stoked when we took my drives on 1, 2, and 4, and 5 (and a few others). Discgolf has become a lifestyle. no, no... an addiction. I think about it when I wake up, go to work and even in bed (sorry honey). I am finally starting to see some steady improvement. Those lucky shots are becoming much more regular. I am still waiting on that first ace, but I have had a few runs.
