Greer

Bill and Carla and I met at Greer this evening and Bill and I played a round. I started out okay but the wheels came off putting on #4. Then I teed off on #5 but threw to the wrong spot. I really had a hard time getting out of that funk until the 14th hole. I ended up at +5 which isn't too bad for me.

Walhalla

This morning I met Bill and Carla to go to the Walhalla course to play a round. Bill invited his friend Nathan and Nathan brought his nephew Joe. So the five of us headed over to Walhalla to play. Poor Nathan has the gout and it was painful for him to get around. He also had to throw flat-footed much of the time because he couldn't step into his throws. That handicap dropped him down to where I could compete with him! Nathan's a pretty good player. His nephew Joe is a good little player for his… Continue

Greer Doubles

Bill talked me into playing doubles at Greer this evening. I was teamed with a guy named Austin who is a much better player than I am. We threw -6 for a 48 to place 3rd. I really struggled with my teeshots, but playing with Austin meant that my teeshots were not going to be used anyway. We won $13 for finishing 3rd. It cost $5 to play plus a dollar for the ace pool. I let Austin take the odd dollar since he carried us, so I broke even in cash. There were 18 for doubles which I think is the most… Continue

Century Park

I called Bill and met him and Carla thi evening for 18 holes at Century Park in Greer. I threw a +5 with a couple of ugly holes, but overall it was pretty so-so for me. I hadn't played for a couple of weeks and miss Bill and Carla. I had mowed for over an hour before going so I was a little tired when I got there. Being a little tired usually helps my sidearm throws.

100 Putts

I hit the back yard basket for 100 putts.

100+ Back Yard Putts

I took a pair of putters to the basket out back and found the old 12 and 24 foot markers. I have 12 and 24 feet marked in 45 degree increments around the basket, then I move back in two foot segments while I work my way around the basket. With 2 putts from each spot that makes for 112 putts. I was pretty good until I reached 20 feet, then my putting was pretty erratic. That should come back with practice.

100+ discs at Greenville Middle School

I went to the big field at Greenville Middle School to throw this evening. I threw over 100 discs, practicing sidearms, backhands, tomahawks, thumbers, rollers, and approaches. My sidearm is about 260 to 290 consistently while my backhand is a puny 150 to 175 feet. Tomahawks are about 150, thumbers around 230. Rollers are 300 + but are also all over the place. If I can learn to control the rollers, it would help my game. I also learned what tomahawks do when I throw them. It might be a useful… Continue

Greer- 36 Holes

I called Bill after work today and he and Carla met me at Greer for a round. I played up and down the first time around and threw a +6 60. Bill wanted to go a second round and I played a little better and finished +2 at 56. 60 and 56 are the same scores that I posted at the Iron Man single disc tournament at Greer in the early spring. I putted much better the second time around and drove more consistently even though I was tiring and losing distance. I always enjoy Bill and Carla's company and… Continue

Timmons - Back Nine

I played the back nine at Timmons after work today. After the first hole (#10) I talked briefly with Chad as he was coming down to play some before weekly doubles. My putting was sorry today as I missed 4 putts in the 20 to 25 foot range - a par and three birdies. I bogeyed #11 and birdied #17 to play an even round. I am thinking about buying one of Bill's baskets to practice putting in the back yard and start throwing long over at Greenville Middle School.

Timmons - Front Nine

After work I started laundry then ran over to Timmons to get in a quick nine holes. I ran into Bill Meeks and his neighbor John. When I teed off on #4 they had just teed off on #5. They had played Greer and were finishing up with Timmons. I was trying to work on using my sidearm with my short game, so scoring was a little erratic. I parred my way through the first four, then had a great tee shot on #5. But my approach flopped next to the basket and stood up and rolled down the hill and into the… Continue
