2009 Bowling Green

The 2009 Bowling Green experience was great. There were a lot of young faces that I had seen before and some old faces too. The BG team seemed to have it together much better this year. There has been a great deal of hard work and planning going into this event. It was very nice to see the scores posted so quickly. I was in the C group of Intermediates and they did a wonderful job of getting us started on time. There was a hitch at Basil Griffin, there must have been a two inch rainfall on Thursday night and a couple of the holes were under water on Friday afternoon.

The BG team quickly made some changes to four of the holes and got us off within 10 minutes of the scheduled start. It was excellent work.

The Northern Illinois/DISContinuum contingent made a very strong showing at Bowling Green. Nate Day and Taylor Cimala finished in the top 10 in Advanced and Matt Travis and Chris Jordan finished in the Top 50. Pat Barrett finished in second in Intermediate and we had 3 other members finish in the top 50. It has been a pretty brutal winter in and around Chicago. It was nice to come down to Bowling Green and smell the grass growing and the flowers blooming.

The Bowling Green Experience this year was outstanding, for those of you who stayed away because of past performance of the BG team. Come on back, the BG team hit a home run this year.

On a side note, I had an opportunity to play Cedar Hill in Nashville. What a course. If you are traveling down Interstate 65 take about 3 hours of your time to play Cedar Hill. It is an amazing course and it is only about 2 minutes off the interstate. There are multiple pin placements and concrete tee pads with very nice signage. It still would be nice to play with a local as this course is a b**l buster. There has been a great deal of time spent on the maintenance of this course. It is a treasure.

I got to play with your buddy, fred I believe is his name, he is a stand up guy and that stuff with the roc was bs. I hope the person that took it and the person that let him take it can't sleep at night.

This was my first year at BG and with all the hype that I had heard about this event I really wasn't impressed! The courses were sweet and the weather was nice but how things were ran were not. As stated above the way we got our players pack was dumb! We had to stay in 4 different lines for 2 hours to get our pack and all you had to do was got eat a nice dinner then come back at the end and you didn't have to stand in any line. There were no signs telling you this way to the course's. I did plan ahead and put them in my gps but they were estimated and I really didn't know where excatly they were.

The biggest beef I had was this one issue I had with the TD. (yes I'm calling him out). I had a buddy lose a disc at Miller in the raging water on Friday. It was a 4x glow roc. Some one turned in the disc to the TD at the course and he brought it back to the Convention Center. All of the found discs were layed out on the counter where we signed in for your players pack. A fellow disc golfer came up and said hey thats mine and walked away with my buddys 4x Roc. No one checked to see if it was that guys disc. They just let him/her have it. When I brought this up to the TD and told him the story he told me that they messed up and he will do something to replace it and come back and see him at the Fly mart. I found him Sat night and he kept on avoiding me as he got drunk and as if he didn't care and didn't think they did anything wrong. All I can say is that was a display of uncaring people running the tournamnent.

I don't care if I get heckled for his I just wanted to let people know what had happened.

There were two good things about BG this year: the player packs and the weather. While it was run better than in years past, the event was what it always is. A huge joke that costs an out of towner far too much for what you get out of it. If it weren't for the great weather and nice courses nobody would travel down there.
