Bill, Steve, and I played 18 holes then Bill and I played the front 9 a second time. I was cruising along the fist time around at -2 after 6 holes when the bottom fell out. 7, 8 , and 9 are all birdie holes and I bogeyed them all. Then I took a double bogey on 11 and 12 while I didn't birdie 13. I bogeyed 14 then settled down for the rest of the round. I birdied 15, missed very makable birdie putts on 16 and 17 then parred 18. Steve left to get his day's sleep and I birdied 1, 2, and 9 on the second time around with Bill.
Right now there is a big hubbub about the city taking out the 15th and 16th holes. We have a man that lives up the hill from the park that calls to complain about disc golf and everybody else in the park every day. He is still upset that the city drove out the homosexual activities in the park about 10 or 12 years ago and he spends every day haranguing the parks people and city council. He has shot at many disc golfers with a pellet gun and built a wooden branch retaining wall on park property. He comes out and curses at players constantly. He has been arrested and taken to court on occasion but the city council just wants to appease him to keep him quiet. They don't understand that he will never be quiet until the park is returned to a hangout for homosexuals. His neighbors had the park closed when they took videos of the homosexuals having sex on the picnic tables that used to be in the park. That park had become too dangerous for most people. After the neighbors showed their sex tapes at a city council meeting the city ran many stings down there and then closed the park for a year. During that time they cleared out the heavy underbrush and removed all the picnic tables to a pair of shelters above the tennis courts. They installed a mountain bike path. Of course that guy put nails in the bike path and it has seen little mountain bike use. A couple of years later the city installed a disc golf course there and that infuriated the guy. He has been threatening people and causing trouble every since. The Upstate Club is going to try to make a showing of strength at the city council meeting, but I feel like the city will bend to his will. Once he has disc golf out of the park he will start in on the tennis courts and the Little League Park. If the city is going to remove a couple of holes, I feel like they should take the baskets and install a new course in a larger park. Timmons is a nice pitch and putt course, but I would like to see a bigger and better course in town.
