The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

Bill, Steve, and I played 18 holes then Bill and I played the front 9 a second time. I was cruising along the fist time around at -2 after 6 holes when the bottom fell out. 7, 8 , and 9 are all birdie holes and I bogeyed them all. Then I took a double bogey on 11 and 12 while I didn't birdie 13. I bogeyed 14 then settled down for the rest of the round. I birdied 15, missed very makable birdie putts on 16 and 17 then parred 18. Steve left to get his day's sleep and I birdied 1, 2, and 9 on the second time around with Bill.

Right now there is a big hubbub about the city taking out the 15th and 16th holes. We have a man that lives up the hill from the park that calls to complain about disc golf and everybody else in the park every day. He is still upset that the city drove out the homosexual activities in the park about 10 or 12 years ago and he spends every day haranguing the parks people and city council. He has shot at many disc golfers with a pellet gun and built a wooden branch retaining wall on park property. He comes out and curses at players constantly. He has been arrested and taken to court on occasion but the city council just wants to appease him to keep him quiet. They don't understand that he will never be quiet until the park is returned to a hangout for homosexuals. His neighbors had the park closed when they took videos of the homosexuals having sex on the picnic tables that used to be in the park. That park had become too dangerous for most people. After the neighbors showed their sex tapes at a city council meeting the city ran many stings down there and then closed the park for a year. During that time they cleared out the heavy underbrush and removed all the picnic tables to a pair of shelters above the tennis courts. They installed a mountain bike path. Of course that guy put nails in the bike path and it has seen little mountain bike use. A couple of years later the city installed a disc golf course there and that infuriated the guy. He has been threatening people and causing trouble every since. The Upstate Club is going to try to make a showing of strength at the city council meeting, but I feel like the city will bend to his will. Once he has disc golf out of the park he will start in on the tennis courts and the Little League Park. If the city is going to remove a couple of holes, I feel like they should take the baskets and install a new course in a larger park. Timmons is a nice pitch and putt course, but I would like to see a bigger and better course in town.

I'm glad to hear that you are a lot more positive about everything. HA!!

I don't think that it matters a toot what we think or say about the entire situation. The city sure doesn't care about it or us. Plus the city doesn't have any parks large enough for a disc golf course. I really don't care what they do to that course. Unless they straighten it out I won't go over there again.

I wish you would quit talking about removing the course because they might take you up on it. If I had a course less than 2 miles from my house I would definitely hate to lose it. The city has done a lot for disc golf and the county has done nothing as far as I know. Anyway Timmons is still my favorite course and I want to keep it.

Nothing was decided. There was a little bit of discussion from Pat Farrell and also the city manager, but nothing concrete was suggested or decided upon. I have no idea what may happen down there and I'm getting to the place that I no longer care what they do down there. I'm all for the city removing the course and selling the baskets to the county to put in a larger park.

The baskets were moved on Wed Feb 20. I wasn't able to go to the meeting last night so I don't know what was decided. Kraig might know.

Just played Timmons and #15 and #16 are moved and there is a colored rope staking off original #15. Was this the decision by the town council?

I was thinking they might add two holes down stream of hole #8. That would require rotating number 8 tee pad and renumbering holes 9 thru 14.

If they take out 15 and 16 the flow of the course will be destroyed. I was hoping that they'd take out 13 through 18 and install new holes on the other side of the road, but I was told that holes across the road is not an option. If the city is going to ruin the course I would just as soon see those baskets taken out of Timmons Park and used in a park large enough to make a better course. I think that Cleveland Park is the only city park that is larger than Timmons.

Why don't you post the Timmons Park history on the Upstate Disc Golf forum so new disc golfers will know what's been going on?

I'm hoping that if they take those two holes out they will add two holes somewhere else in the park.
