yesterday's buffumville (charlton, MA) ice bowl was fun, icy, sunny, windy, slightly unpredictable, and positive!
120 golfers participated, including 12 women... 10% of the field. the women's division had 5 teams... with women representing 5 states... that's like 10% of the country. YES, 120 GOLFERS!!! with the huge turnout plus donations from some folks not even in attendance the TD's fundraising goal was met.
weather was kinder than it could have been. a brisk sunny day; it was between 16-26 degrees throughout the day (which was actually 2-16 degrees when the 10-13 mph winds were factored in). apparently a snowstorm followed by a rainstorm had been by mid-week. a layer of icy snow covered the course. this made for fast greens. very fast greens. the lunch break included hula hoop lessons! jason southwick hula dancing with a hula hoop = priceless.
with 60 teams playing 2 rounds of 18-20 holes, many golfers were still throwing well after the sun had set. that's dedication. we eventually finished up with a putting/CTP contest for some donated prizes then an awards ceremony by the fire.
after the ice bowl we enjoyed food & spirits at whistle stop. it was nice to be inside from the cold and enjoying the company of friends. and i learned to play KENO buffumville style!
that brings us to today. becky and i got up this morning and made the 70 mile commute back on up to buffumville for sunday random draw doubles. still fast greens. still cold;)
thanks to TD david (and his young helpers) for putting up with 120 ice bowlers and organizing this fundraising event. thanks again to team buff for clearing the tees and building temp tees. thanks to the golfers who traveled long distances to build up certain divisions. safe travels home and hope to throw with you soon. 2008 is off to a great start!
