Saturday I played in my first Minnesota event, the Chilly Dog Winter League at Kaposia Park (one of the three courses for the MN Majestic NT event May 29-Jun 1). This was my first round at Kaposia. It's a tough course to play blind. For those not familiar with the Chilly Dog, it's a singles league with winter rules (no penalty strokes) and it is ran by Matt Koerner. Timmy Gill of Par 72 (and TD of MN Majestic) assists with the merch payouts from his mobile disc shop. My entry was $6 and I was kindly sposored by Chris "Porterhouse" Porter (Thank you Chris). Chris pays for all the women in hopes that more will come out. I was invited out by "Muddy" through this site, and finally had a weekend off of work so I could attend.
I met a few MFA guys, which was indeed nice to get to know a few people who throw in the area. I played in a foursome with Muddy, Levi, and Jake. We for sure had fun. I didn't come prepared in snow gear so I couldn't compete in the races down hills (put a disc under your butt on a steep hill and sled down it), but I still had a great time (maybe the last statement explains why we were slow Matt). I guess I'll have to go more prepared next time. All in all, I didn't play all that well. I shot 18 over par, lost a disc, and had a few too many discs in the woods. It was a great learning experience though. I guess I can say I improved though from beginning to end. We warmed up on the first hole (280 ft), of which out of maybe 4 drives 3 hit wood. Hole 1 was our finishing hole for the round. I put my drive maybe 10 feet from the basket, and made a deuce. (Yay for no wood). So I guess I did learn and improve ;)
So all in all, I had a great time at the Chilly Dog and wish I could be back every week. For now, I just have to wish for Saturdays off of work. Those are few and far between. I hope to make it back again and want to thank Matt and Timmy for putting on such a great league to play in!
