Thanks to all who braved the rain today to participate in the San Marcos Ice Bowl at Montiel Park. Fifty-one hardy souls slogged through the mud, mist and mulligans to help us celebrate the Grand Opening of San Diego County's newest disc golf course, and to generate a sizeable donation for The Angel's Depot (a North County Senior Food Bank). I will update later with totals for the donation in dollars and pounds of food, but it's safe to say this was a very successful event. The City of San Marcos officials on hand were very impressed by the turnout and had a great time - they spent about an hour involved in a putting contest using EDGE discs while the tournament was going on.
Dave Vincent of San Marcos shot a blistering 39 for 18 holes (slightly mulligan-aided) to take first place in the Men's Open division. Dave Roper's 40 took first in Advanced, after an umpteen-hole playoff with Carl Renda. A. J. Risley of San Marcos and Karl Huering were one shot back at 41. Aaron Van Matre also shot a 41, which was good enough for 1st in the Intermediate division.
Allison Wylot won the Open Women's division with a 44, Laurie Stroh shot 52 to win Women's Advanced and Robyn Butler won Women's Intermediate with a score of 53. Alex Bleher of San Marcos shot a 51 to win the Junior title.
Alex, John Butler and Don Vincent scored aces on holes 2, 1 and 3 respectively. John won a sudden-death putt-off to win the Discatcher Traveler basket. John and Alex played in the same group and scored their aces on back-to-back holes. It was the first PDGA tournament for both Alex and Don.
