Is is sick and twisted when you look forward to a day where you know you are gonna get tortured on the disc golf course? That was what I was asking myself when I woke up the day of the tourney. I knew it going to be a long day judging from my experience the year before. Just a year before The 3rd annual LCCC was my first tournament. It really is a great course and a great club but to say this is a tricky course is a huge understatement. There is OB on I would say every hole and most of the holes have OB on both sides add to that there were constant 20-30mph winds with gusts lets just says It was a true tests of wills especially to be mine and Cilecia's first tourney ever. I was especially proud of her that day because she was playing with Marla Lenox , Addie Isbell, and Nicki Douglas who are 3 of the better female disc golfers on the scene in the South. Even with then triple Circle 9's she never gave up and finished out her day. How proud I was of her that day was one of the things that kept me from going home after The first round of this years tournament. I really have been playing better as of late but it seemed like I couldn't keep one in bounds. I ended up shooting 13 over for the first round and the only thing that kept me from over heating was the fact that even though it was in the 30's I had to take off my shirt and dig pretty deep in one of of their creeks to get out my Champion Destroyer.
After lunch cooler heads prevail even though I was on the next to last card I decided that I needed to just press on and just keep em' in play. Unlike the first round where I go to play with a couple of my buddies Danny Newton and Jon Harbison I was all alone. I didn't know anyone on my card so I sunk into my hyper focus introverted self mode. It worked. The wind was still blowing and I started out on what is one of their longest hardest holes and their basket was up on a hill so putting up at the basket was dangerous. After a big drive I parked it up at the basket for a safe 3 and a good start to the round. Then I stood on the next hole on which every drive I took in the practice and in the first round were OB. I decided I better take out my most reliable wind beating discs. (champ Whippet)(for those of you wondering why they cost so much forehand one in the wind). Lets just say it beat the wind and snuggled up nice and tidy to the basket to win me the INT CTP. That hole sent me into overdrive and helped me realize my true tourney potential. I made six more birdies with 1 being a within inchs ace run that ended up 2 ft. behind the basket from 311ft out. I totaled six birdies that last round and without a couple STUPID'S. One where I had to Re-Tee and another one where all I had to do was put one in play and maintain when I got 3 down. Lessons Learned. And like I said I really saw what my true potential is now I just have to keep practicing and keep my focus on my Goals. Also If you read all of this thank you. You are a true friend, and care enough about be to read all of this and I appreciate it. hope it was worth it. St
