I had scheduled a Lakewood Club meeting for this evening hoping for a nice day so I could swing by the course and play beforehand. The weather didn't disappoint but before I could play I had to meet with Sam from the parks department about an issue with hole 16. Sam supervises the maintenence at Lakewood and is very disc golf friendly. Unfortunately there is some pressure from above that is asking (requiring?) that the basket on hole 16 be taken out of the wooded area where it now resides. This would effectively ruin one of the more beautiful holes on the course so I am working on getting that directive reversed. It may be futile but an effort must be made.
After chatting things over with Sam I headed up to the upper parking lot and found a big group of local golfers about to flip discs for random doubles. Fortunately for me they needed one more player to make even groups and I ended up with a partner named Jaba. They like to play a 20 hole format and I had a great time even though we got off to a slow start and didn't score very well. The team of Rob and the Ervinator tore it up shooting something like ten down. The putting was killing Jaba and me, we ended up right around even. It was one of those days where we needed to be PARKED if we were going to have a shot at a two.
After the round I headed over to the firehouse for the Club meeting, four of us talking about plans for making the Lakewood Club bigger and better! After the meeting Jub showed me his most recent ebay purchase- a disc with a 45rpm record riveted to the top featuring a song about throwing frisbees by
Tom Wayne. It came with a cassette tape with a recording of the song which was pretty countryfied and cornball patriotic. Fun stuff.
