So yesterday, I snuck out before I had to teach voice lessons to figure out this game. Headed out to Montiel around noon, and when I got there, there was one other person on the course. Started throwing discs and low and behold, they actually went somewhere. What?!? No, I didn't eat Wheaties, or have hypnosis. Somehow, all the stuff I have been worrying about, completely obsessing (as in, "how can you ever play this if you can't throw") over just melted away.
I looked over my shoulder to see if there was a hidden camera. Was it some kind of prank? No camera. Just me. And guess what? I could throw! And mostly, the disc actually went in the general vicinity of it's intent. Amazing.
So I played nine holes. I replaced all the 6s, 7s and 8s on the holes with 3, 4 and 5s! I even threw a disc so far that on a couple of occasions, I actually lost the disc.To many of you out there, I am sure it is more a nuisance than anything else, but to me, it was a good as an ace would be to you. Actually throwing a disc out of sight..and forward, to boot!! OMG!
I don't know how it happened, but I am glad that it did. Went back to the first tee after I was done and took every disc I had out of the bag and pounded them off the tee. And guess what? Instead of going about 25 feet, the discs FLEW off my hand and of the eight I threw, all but 2 made it to the ditch just before the basket on one! (I have no clue how far that is. Never entertained the possibility I would see it on my first shot).
So, now, I guess I am not going to quit. Funny how that works. I think that if I played the Ice Bowl today I would not be the one to come in dead last.--I would have to give up the award. And as my current short term goal is not to be the worst player in the field, I feel good about that. Of course my subsequent goals have a little more positive mojo than this one. My current motto is: Don't suck. I don't think I suck at this game anymore. In fact, it was kind of fun.
Let's see if I can find some of the same success on the other golf course today. Girl Golf. (aka Ladies' day at San Luis Rey). Have outfit, ready to play!
