Now here's some BIG news that certainly came as surprise to me. As 2007 Worst Player Of The Year Award Winner, I played my first tournament of 2008 and guess what ? I Won My First Tournament That I Played In 2008 - The March Mush, The Kick Off Tournament For The Fantastic J-Bird Series. The tournament was held at Grand Woods in Lansing and was played in 4 or 5 inches of fresh snow. This was my first tournament ever played as an Advanced Grandmaster, aside from my play at last year's Michigan State Finals, a spot that I slid into by winning a berth with a first place in a lower Am division at my home course. And the details of the March Mush tournament were this - I went into the start of the first round knowing that I had second place wrapped up regardless and my play on starting hole #15 almost secured that second place finish. I had an easy 25' putt for birdie but flew over the basket with authority. Same was true on my return putt for par. A solid 4 to start, followed by two more bogies in a row. Three holes into the round and I was 4 strokes down to the only other Advanced Grandmaster. But there's no where but up from that start and I proved my abilities with some solid, consistant and accurate throws, not alot of distance but nothing out of the fairway. I ended the day +21 and 21 strokes over my opponet. I learned a valuable leason, If I play tournaments that only have three in my division, I'll finish in the top three ALL YEAR LONG !!!
