The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

First of all Congrats Shan on your first tourney win! I am so proud of you!

So this weeks stop in the 6 in 6 weeks tour was at HOME... The Grapevine Classic 4.

That's right at home...the one win that seemed to always elude me. Of all the ones I had given away you would think I would be due for that solid day at the course I play almost every day. After all "I am the predicted winner by a few and expected to win by others". Gotta live up to that ... this is home.

Round 1 - Our temp course which is set up only 4 days a year the Friday before and the Day of our 2 local tourney's a year. The Chickamauga Dam Temp course ... somewhat open and long, some wooded elevation, o/b, and more elevation. Did I mention the WIND and a River?

Needless to say far from my "style" of play. Today was windy as well. You would think by now I would have figured out how to stop turning 3's to 5's in the wind but not today. The first round was up and down with some good drives, good to ok up shots and missed putts. I gave away so many. Oh the ones I would like to have back!!

To my surprise... I was only 5 strokes out of 1st and sitting in 3rd out of 11 women stacked up. I kept thinking of all I left out there and what it would take at MY COURSE to win one at home! How to over come my 69 round and go to the woods and get the job done. I mean I play this course almost daily so you would think I would know every line. I knew every hole was a parable hole but in the woods you never know as some of the best shots can tag a tree.
I want it ... this would be the win that has ever meant the most. More than the 1st, the last, this is the one at home. The course and people I know and love. This is where I want to win! This is going to have to be the biggest comeback to win too. The largest field I have played in with several respected players.

Round 2:
Here we go ... off to a good start building momentum, going along 2 up after 8 holes. Bogey 9, 10, 11. Oh man that hurts. Birdie 12, 14. Got a little back. Shooting for par just finish with pars ... focus on each shot ... play smart. Shoot par golf.

Solid on 15, 16 man this round is flying by! I made it through good ol 17 (often a challenge) headed into the last hole of the day #18. One of my favorite holes nice forehand line but a little tight ... I think I am in the lead so I think - just finish strong this is it.

BIRDIE. I just shot a 58 - 4 up for the round. I play the course a lot and on tourney day I have been searching for this round ... the solid round at home and here it is. The question is did I make up the 5 strokes on my Mom - (yes my Mom ... but don't let the Mom thing fool you a natural athlete, softball pitcher - works with putting - solid player even if she is my Mom.) She took it down at the Chick course with the hot round of 64. Did I keep my lead on the girls a card down within 2 strokes?

Now the final cards are counted with the HOT ROUND -- I WIN ... FINALLY the ONE WIN AT HOME after a comeback in the woods - The Sinks! I beat my Mom by 1 stroke (last hole Birdie as she had par) and she is 2nd of 11 women in our division. How cool is that?!? 1,2 finish by 1 stroke! With my Mom. Just getting to play with her much less finish one two means the world.

Then, I find out Shan wins too! WHAT A DAY FOR NOOGA DISC GOLF!

DOUBLE D STYLE!! Throw some D's on it!
