Just after Christmas Shawn and I went to Squaw Valley in Tahoe for 4 days of snowboarding. Mid afternoon on day 1, I took a pretty good fall. I caught the heel side edge of my board which pulled me down backwards. I was wearing a helmet thankfully, but instinctively I put my hands down to catch myself. Instantly, I was nervous about the impact. I sat up and actually just sat on the slope for at least 5 minutes. I still had a significant amount that I had to traverse before I was at the bottom. I was extremely cautious the rest of the way done as my right wrist was quite sore. When I turned, I would move my arms to counterbalance the change in position of the board. Every time I did so, I could feel the blood rushing to my wrist causing a slight throb of pain.

Once down, I went back to our room and put some ice on my wrist. It was starting to swell and I was unable to do anything with that hand such as carry my board or even unzip my jacket, so I decided to visit the medical facility. Well, to make a long story short, I broke the distal edge of my radius in two places. In other words, I broke my right arm near the wrist. One break is perpendicular to the bone and should heal just fine with no lasting effect. The other break is right where the radius articulates with the bones of your wrist. If you imagine a dog bone with a bulbous end, I have a crack that is separating the top part of one of those bumps from the rest of the bone. Depending on the width of that fracture, it is possible that it will need to be pinned. I have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday to see if that is necessary.
