The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I played my first game with a borrowed DX Beast and a Polecat. That night I went to Wal-Mart and bought a Rhyno putter, Viking distance driver and a Gazelle fairway driver. These 3 are decent discs. The Viking goes pretty far but has too much fade for my liking. The Gazelle doesn't go near the distance I prefer. The Rhyno is not very accurate. I have found a Cobra and a Stingray mid-range disc on the course and prefer these to putt and approach much more than the Rhyno. I have also found a Gateway Sabre. It is a very stable long gliding driver but is very worn and used. I threw a few holes with a borrowed Valkyrie and nearly had an ace. I have been about 6 times and I already have a passion for Frolf.

Welcome to the game. A little disc golf is sort of like a little bit of cocaine.

As a beginner in the game you have the chance to develop good form before you lock in bad habits. You need to see what the form of good players is like and mimic it. You can go to your local course and find out when leagues or tournaments are held. Or you can find videos at this site or others. Some folks have said the Discraft videos are decent. Good form and playing with good players will skyrocket your skills. Or don't worry about any of this and just have fun.

As you play your game will change over time. So a disc that seems useless now (your Rhyno) may become your favorite later. And a disc that looks beat-to-heck may be more useful than a bright shiny one. For any disc try to throw it dead nuts flat ( I know this sounds easy but is actually very difficult). Once you can throw flat, the others flight adjustments will come much easier.
