Many disc golfers have heard about the mysterious "Competition Manual,"
which can be found here (PDF), but many fewer have read it! I suggest that you do as it contains a number of things that function as Rules of Play for PDGA-sanctioned events, many of which you may not already know very well.
It has the same force and effect as the official rules book. See Section 3.1.A for example, "All tournament players must abide by the information given in the PDGA Competition Manual and the PDGA Rules of Play. Any player in non-compliance may be disqualified, or may not be allowed to participate in the tournament at any time."
And here's one that came up at the USADGC that not many people know: If you have a caddie, any violation of the rules or play or the competition manual (including the dress code) by your caddie is treated the same as a violation by you! That's in Section 3.5.
And then there is this one, which extends the TD's power to enforce alcohol abuse rules outside of competition itself: Section 3.1.B. "• Abuse of alcohol after play and on course property is
considered professional misconduct."
Again, that
Competition Manual can be found here (PDF) and
the Official Rules of Disc Golf can be found here HTML).
It's really time for the PDGA to hire some editors to parse out which information needs to be communicated where. It's not a question of deciding
what the rules are so much as finding a way so that the average player can
know what they are.
