So I played in my first PDGA sanctioned Disc Golf tournament this past weekend (June 21 and 22). I didn't quite play as well as I had hoped. Actually I played pretty horribly. There were two rounds of 21 holes on Saturday and one round of 21 holes on Sunday. The first round started off pretty well but soon fell apart. There was a break of about 2 hours before the second round started. The second round went a little better as I scored 6 shots lower than the first round. The first hole of the third round set the tone for the rest of the day, not good. It seemed like every good shot was followed by one or two horrible shots.
Oh well, it was my first tournament and I certainly did not expect to place high up in the rankings. As poorly as I played I did have a ton of fun. Disc golf is an awesome sport and all the people who play it are great fun to hang out with.
One of the coolest parts of the tournament was that for the second and third rounds my "card" was behind the leading pro card. As can happen often in Disc Golf we got backed up on a bunch of holes which allowed us to watch the pros throw. These guys were amazing!! Whereas I throw around 300 feet on a good drive, these guys throw like 500 feet. They can putt lights out from like 50 feet pretty consistently where I might hit a 50 foot putt once in a blue moon (I have hit one).
Anyway, I finished 14th out of 16 in my division while my friend whom I introduced to disc golf like 5 months ago finished 9th in our division. Good job, James!!! I'm jealous, but I'm happy as hell for you!!
