Looking around the site at pages that people have made, I notice a lot of folks trying to get their pictures to "fit" in the top of their pages. It looks like many put the picture in the BODY BACKGROUND, and this doesn't work because it's behind the theme header backround. You can change the background image, that's fine, but unless you know how to make a small tiled image, it often looks kind of clunky.
IF YOU WANT A BANNER, upload your image in the HEADER BACKGROUND, second box.
Size the image 955 pixels wide, and X pixels tall (X can be whatever height you want the banner to be). You can use any graphic program to make a cool banner, just save it as a JPEG or GIF file and upload. I put a black gradient on the bottom of my graphic image so it blends into the black background. You can blend to what ever color you have for your body background.
Then ... In the ADVANCED settings for your THEME, scroll down to the bottom of all the CSS code and ADD this line of code to the CSS. Make sure there is a return between the last line and this next line ...
#xg_masthead { height: 400px; }
NOTE if you copy paste this, make sure your graphic is 400px tall, or it will look funky. Change the 400 to the actual pixel height of your finished banner. The 400px is the height of your graphic banner. Mine is 955x400px.
SAVE your changes.
This is not difficult to do [even if you dont' know CSS], but if you have any questions ... feel free to post a comment.
Have fun!
NOTE: I'm not sure if this will work the exact same way with every theme, I'm just posting it as an example.
