Today I had a discussion with friends while throwing Kaposia. I knew of the unplayable rule, but I guess not well enough. The discussion arose because one of my buddies chose to make use of that ruling during our rec round. He was way to deep in the trees/ shule to make it out in one shot, so he took the unplayable and reteed. I could have used this rule in my tourney last weekend. I took a six on a hole. My drive went way left and way down a gully. I proceeded to throw a shot a measily 100 ft. shot up the middle of the gully (yes, I was right in the middle of it) WHILE sliding everywhere. I could not get a stance. The next shot, same deal. No stance. Too slippery. Another 80 ft. back up the hill, yet still about 80 from the basket with more trees in the way. Threw my next shot while sliding down the hill.... and hit a tree. Finally I was out of the gully and nearly in the open, about 50 ft. from basket. Up shot and a putt for a 6. Had I taken the unplayable and had a halfway decent drive on this WIDE OPEN hole that plays under 250, I could have taken a circle 5 or maybe even circle 4 and saved a stroke or two. It's an easily deuce hole for me. That was the first and last time I will be in that gully. Last time I'll avoid thinking about taking an unplayable lie too.
As for the weekend, fireworks with the family in White Bear Lake tonight, then heading down to Austin, MN with Muddy for the Spam Town Open. Two rounds of 27 holes in one day! It's gonna be a long day and a test of endurance with the arm and body. Haven't played a tournament with that many holes in one day yet! The Majestic was 27 holes in one day for three days and that had me worn out on disc by the end! Should be fun. I've been told that Todd Park is an awesome course and that the Huckabys who are TDing the event are great TDs! Can't wait to play a new course blind in a tourney!
