The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

tripped on a root again and blew my ankle out once again. Seems to be the theme this year. Granted its an old injury. But jesus !!! i would love to play a month of summer disc without hurting my ankle. Conteplating on going to the DR. to see what can be done. Last time we talked about it it was surgery. Point blank they would have to break my ankle, cut and loosen the tendons and do some stuff with the ligaments. If thats the case im out for 2 months. Its my own fault i didnt wear my new hightop boots. Its a flat course for the most part with very little trees but just my luck i hit a root and down i go. My ankle is literally the size of an apple no joke.

Question truely is, is this sport for me ? My bad ankle is my plant foot, so there is always a chance of me going down off a drive lets not forget just walking lmao. I hate to say it but im almost conteplating about hanging the bag up.

YEAH RIGHT like i would be able to do that.

so the tally is at like 3 breaks 2 fractures and 17 spraigns i think i lost count.

Start to practice your flicking, at least you don't have to really put too much pressure on that ankle. Might not be as accurate as you are now, but in time you will develope the shot.
Hang up the bag, HA!!!! After the addiction hits, it's hard to put down...

Beatz, buddy...I think you should really consider the surgery. Do it in August or September, you'll be recovered and well into rehab by Christmas, giving you January through March or April to continue to get it in disc golf shape and ready for next summer. Make sure you explain explicitly to your physical therapists the motions you want to accomplish when healthy too, that way they get you on the right programs so disc golf doesn't create more problems with it down the road.

I had off and on knee problems for years...doctors told me I should consider an arthroscopic procedure just to clean things up and I'd be good to go and I put it off. It wasn't until I hurt it badly enough that there was no option but surgery to repair it that I finally relented. At which point the arthroscopic procedure wasn't enough and they had to cut me wide open. Luckily it happened in September and I was back throwing by Thanksgiving and back to something resembling peak by May/June. Yeah, it still bothers me here and there as you know, but I think it's more to do with how invasive the surgery was and that I might have avoided it or put it off until much later in life had I had them fix it sooner like they suggested.

Or you could take the KRE route and start throwing left-handed so the ankle goes from being your pivot/plant foot to the less used off-foot.

may I suggest you try other options before surgery, or at least get a few medical opinions first.

just speaking from my experience. after surgery to relieve pain my foot hurts worse than before and until I get insurance again theres nothing I can do about it.

plus after surgery you'll be off your foot for probably more than 2 months if you want it to heal correctly. I had to keep weight off it for almost two months, then walk with the 'boot' and still use crutches for another month. then wear the boot for a month or so also.

anyways. sorry to hear that you injured it again. I think lots of us know what it's like to want to go out and play and not be able to.

hey now, hope your ankle heals, perhaps surgery IS necessary.Ask for a walking cast.Looks like a HUGE ski boot.Walk up to the tee line and throw. You'll adjust.Peace
