The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
until yesterday. Team Rizbee rolled up to Redlands, CA for their inaugural Ice Bowl event, which is part of a three-tournament Ice Bowl Series (Redlands, Palm Desert, San Marcos). A field of about 20 played 18 holes on the 9-hole Ford Park DGC. Many players were probably scared off by the "storm of the century" that was supposed to dump several inches of rain on us yesterday, but didn't show in the morning. But I digress...
Bill Maury-Holmes, the TD referred to me as a sand-bagger as he presented me with the 1st place trophy. I had just won a one-hole sudden-death play-off after tying for first with a -15 for 18 holes. Caveats: Ford Park is a pretty short layout and it was an Ice Bowl, so I did use 7 mulligans (3 were for ace runs on short holes after I was already parked, but I used them nonetheless), but it was a tournament win, dammit, and I did play pretty well, mulligans aside. I guess he may be referring to the fact that I was once an Open player (20 years ago...), or that I dress well on the course and therefore *look* like a sandbagger. Anyway, I'm pretty tickled that I played well enough to be chided for bagging. Maybe it's the start of something new for 2008!
Me accepting the Ford Park Ice Bowl trophy...
