I finally got over to Sparta, WI to play the courses at Justin Trails. There are two courses at this pay-for-play facility (just $5 a day!) and they are worth the trip. It is a fully functioning farm, with cows, llamas, corn and hay, plus they run a bed and breakfast.
The classic course is a very nice advanced course. There are tons of elevation changes and some breathtaking backdrops. The holes are challenging and varied, and there is a nice flow to the course. A couple holes could stand to have their fairways widened a bit, but that could well be because of the time of year - stuff is growing like mad.
The new "big brother" course is definitely championship caliber. Hole #1 is 1,050 feet, and there are plenty of others to test the long arms. Tons of elevation is in play, so be prepared to hike. The only weakness I saw was there was a bit of a hike between some of the holes. Hopefully down the road some additional holes could be added to keep everyone playing while they span the gaps.
Overall a real thumbs-up! They will be hosting a PDGA B-tier tournament Sept 13-14, so I do believe I'll run a group of Ace Holes over to participate.
I met about ten of the area (LaCrosse, Sparta and Winona) discers, and they are a fine bunch. Super avid players with long arms and a constant desire to play.
