The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
Seems to be the thing to do, so I figure I should give it a shot.
I was born and raised in Benbrook Tx and have lived just 3 min from the Mighty Z the entire time. It wasnt until december 2004 when a friend of mine asked if I want to go play disc golf. I said sure what the hecc. I played ultimate a lot so it cant be that hard, well it was of course, and from day one I was hooked! I found myself playing 4 to 5 times a weekfrom the first week. But likewith any sport your natural ability can only take so far. It wasnt long before I started to play with a group of my church buddies who played every saturday morning at 7am. you know you are obsessed when a college student gets up at 7 am on a saturday! I enjoyed the fellowship and the competetive play. There was one guy in the group, Brian, who was better then everyone else who I looked up to and always tried to beat. He was the first guy to really push me in the sport to be better. It wasnt long before I was beating them all, Brian included. I had gotten to the point where I wasnt learning anymore from him because I had learned everythign I could from the group. But I was content just playing agaisnt everyone on saturdays and having fun.
In april of 2006 Brian told me of a tourney I should play in at Z boaz. I was hesitant thinking I didnt want to play any tourneys and it was a waist of time. Finally he convinced me otherwise and I told him I would play Rec just to get the hang of it. After a little more talk I was convinced I should play Intermediate. I wasnt sure about this because I had never lpayed with anyone except my friends. But I did anyway. It was a good ting too. I tied another golfer for first in the division and the third place guy was 12 strokes back of us. Oops. I won in the playoff and my intermediate days were over seeing that my first rating was 954. After that event I knew this was something I really wanted to do. And over the next year I worked my way up to being an open player. When I look back on it I have a hard time believing it hasnt even been two years sense I started playing tourneys. The Lord has really blessed with the abilities to play disc golf, and play it well. I cant imagine where I would be with Him.
Thats how I got started in Disc golf. Maybe not as glamorous as some, but its my story.
