The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf

I have been to three PDGA Worlds but never as a player. In 2000 I caddied for Bruce. In 2004 Becky and I were co-TDs of the jr boys pool. In 2007 I took a couple of days off from work and took pictures.

I'm sure it's an absolute blast playing in Worlds, but it is also pretty fun to just hang out at Worlds and watch and have fun. Having an interest in the 2008 Worlds but not being able to attend is a little bit like being offered a caffeine free, diet Coke. It may say "Coca-Cola" on it, but it really doesn't hit the spot.

Sure, I get PIN messages on my Blackberry the moment my wife gets off the course to give me an update on the happenings and the updates to the scores have been very fast. But to look at the pictures that the PDGA is posting, you'd think this was the 2008 PDGA Professional World Championships...which it IS, but it is also the Amateur World Championships as well. Don't get me wrong, I like to see pictures of the pros but even this coverage is a little lacking.

However, I can't really even blame the coverage. Until Nike or Coca-Cola is plunking down the cash for TV time, I won't be able to feel like I'm at Worlds while still in my living room. Nothing beats the experience of being there except for the satisfaction of being a good parent (and spouse)...which is why I'm at home for this Worlds. Maddisen has marching band camp all week and she really couldn't miss it and still be able to participate in marching band.

I am really glad that Becky has had the opportunity to play in her first Worlds. All of my body parts aren't cooperating for me to play Worlds, so it was a no brainer when she asked if I'd mind if she went without us. There's only so many chances one gets to play a week of disc golf so you gotta go when you can.

I hope everyone is having fun...but could someone please post some more pictures?!?

I love the way you write.....it is like the way you talk. Intelligent with a hint of humor (and sometimes sarcasm). It's one of the things that brought me to you 25 years ago :) It will keep me coming back from trips like last week, too.

The John Hancock. My favorite super sky scraper in the world! It's kinda funny that most people walk by this "display" on the observation deck and don't know what it is for. I have no idea why I added it to this blog...just felt like putting up a picture and this is the one that I happened to find.

I did not have a camera with me but even if I did I don't think I could have snapped a shot better than this one. Where did you set this up?
