It had to happen sooner or later, I was personally hoping for later.

Important safety tip Igon.... Do not, under any circumstances, brew your beer while the AFC Championship game is on. You will do something wrong!

I tried this and ended up not getting a good OG. With a partial boil, I cooled the wort properly, but failed to add most of the water to the fermenter BEFORE pouring the wort on top of it. Therefore the water is sitting on top (because we all know water is 1 SG and wort is 1.010+, which makes it float. So my initial reading came out as 1.020 which is a far cry from 1.046 that it should be.

Of course I was able to "stir" it later, but that's not the point. Beer is a science and is an attention monger. From now on, I believe I will be brewing with a checklist. Especially since every other sentence in "The Joy of Home Brewing" is 'Relax, have a homebrew".

More words of wisdom later.

Currently I'm Extract, partial boil.
I Keg so I don't have to wash bottles!!!!!
I guess that investment in the 2 tap system is paying for itself now.
I've downloaded eval copies of the ProMash and Beersmith. Still look at both.
I am keeping a journal.

Ever consider purchasing the ProMash software? Sounds like you are pretty meticulous so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Are you labeling your bottles or keeping a journal? Kit or all-grain? I thought about making a post like this since there are several homebrewers in our club (Garden City Flyers out of Missoula, MT) alone. Keep it up.
