Today it took 2 1/2 hours to get to and then 2 1/2 hours to return from the course at Wrightwood. I hate LA.
Wrightwood, CA- Sunrise DGC @ Mountain High:At 7,800 ft. elevation, and easily over a mile above the ground below the top of the mountain, you can see a heck of a long way from the top, cities look like a blur, distance mountain ranges look like bumps in the ground. It's on a ski resort. Rubber and dirt tees, has great signs very informative, no map when store closed which it was. I didn't know what to do since no one was there, so I saved 5$ and started on #10 because I couldn't find #1 right away. Long and easy for a smooth accuracy big arm, but tough for someone throwing wild as they can soar 100's of feet off the fairway or even over the edge of the mountain. Every hole seems to be either up or downhill, not many flat shots. Physically challenging, it took 2 1/2 hours to play (20 minutes searching for drive on #1 which I only found after giving up and walking up hole #2). Lots of trees, some holes tight some just with guarded pins or a tree to throw around. Dusty ground with some scrubby bushes, nowhere near as rough as your typical mountain course. Lots of bees. Each 9 hole loop on the 27 hole course ends near the car, so you don't need to carry a ton of water all day on your back. Easy to follow- sings tell you where to look to find the right basket, and where the next tee is, length and a graphic of the hole, only 2-3 signs were broken.
Azusa, CA- Northside:Great set-up for such an easy short and boring course. Has a giant map, tee signs. Small neighborhood park with green grass, flat, road OB. Some spaced out shade trees to toss around, not very tight. Good design to teach basic shots that can be reached by beginners. Longest is 247', shortest is 146'.
