The Community of Disc Golfers and About All Things Disc Golf
I played my first PDGA tourney of the year yesterday, the first one since the PDGA redifined the divisions. It was also the first ratings based tourney I had played in as well. I was well pleased with both, there seemed to be great compition in all divisions and plenty of players in all divisions. I made it a point to speak to some of the older players and women to ask thier opinion of the ratings based divisions. All that I spoke with seemed to be pleased playing against players of similar skill level regardless of age or gender.
There is only one problem I see now, we must find new names for our lower divisions as the labels for those divisions will likely drive some players to higher divisions. I like the "colored" division names that I have seen. Can we do better? Maybe. Later this year, I plan to name our Am divisions with a theme that goes along with our tournament name. Our Summer School tourney will have these divisions, Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. Will a 50 year old 845 rated 5 year disc golf veteran be more likely to play in the Freshman division than the Novice division? Maybe we will see.
