I really hate seeing the top players in the game playing a 450' foot hole, and having it called a par 4. Any 1000 rated player who does not get a 3 on these length holes considers this a lost stroke. It's not comparable to "ball golf" in this respect when determining par, so I think par should be determined by course pros who feel that a good player should get a "3" or should get a "4" on any particular hole and that should be the "pro par" for that hole. I really hate the current formula for par setting, with players shooting better than -10 a round in the Worlds. Why cant we take a vote and change this ridiculous par determining system, and go with the par number that makes sense. When 90% percent of players are getting a 3 on a "par 4", then it is a "par 3".

I can shoot ten down at my local course, should i adjust the Par 54 to include all the holes that i 2 90% of the time as par two?? Of course not, our sport has really low scores in comparison to ball golf, and there a good reason for that, its not as difficult as ball golf. Its sounds like your more hung up on the idea that a proffessional can average ten down at worlds, then the par of the course.
The truest test of a hole is its abilty to reward good holes and punish bad ones, if 90% of the players that play that hole end up with the same score then the hole is poorly designed. All that tells me is that the good shot was still to far to birdie without luck, and the bad shot was close enough to make a good approach. Re-design the hole and your par issue is solved.

Well all I can say is that everyone needs to come and see or play the Willowbrook disc golf course in Byron, MI. There are an equal number of par 3's, 4's, and 5's on both the front and back 9. That makes it a full par 72. If the hole is 400' then it is a par 3, if it is 800 ft then it is a par 4, and if it is 1000 ft it is a par 5. Nice course, nice elevation, nice golf carts, nice clubhouse, nice beer cart. Get the picture! It is a golf course with a permanently installed disc golf course. Nothing like not having to carry your bag, and having to count more than 3 strokes on a hole. If you get a birdie, you deserve it on this course. I feel that is the kind of reward that a birdie should be. Check out my bag for photos of the course.

It's all low score anyway. In my opinion a true par four would have to be...depending on terrain, in the neigborhood of 800+ feet. A true par 5... 1000+. I would say the average clean throwing distance for all advanced and pro players is around 250 to 300 feet....not counting those obstacles blasted right off the tee....or smackdowns.

I generally keep par as all 3's regardless of the length.

Does it matter..at all? Par only comes into effect if you miss a hole at a sanctioned event..other than that it's irrelevant. I know what I can and should shoot on any given hole, and I know when a shot is bad and when one is good. That's all I need to compare to when playing. I don't care what some inexperienced course designer made-up out of the blue for a par for their hole. I'd rather see the distance listed! (I played a course where the pads had the PAR but not the HOLE NUMBER or LENGTH, believe it or not!)
