The Hampton Showdown was my first tournament of the year. It was held on May 17 at the Hampton Rotary 4-Way Test DGC in Hampton, Iowa. Ten players showed up to play in this small, unsanctioned tournament that I ran. I shot even par the first round and a three under the second round. My 51 (-3) was good enough for a three-way tie for 2nd place in Advanced. Overall it was a great day and I feel I played pretty well.

My next tournament was the Northwood Open. The tournament was held on Thursday, July 3rd, so I left work at 2:30 pm and drove from Belmond to Northwood for the 5:00 pm shotgun start. I shot a 31 on the par 30 10-hole layout for the first round and a two under 28 for the second round. I ended up in 4th place in Advanced with my 59 (-1), two strokes out of 1st place and one stroke out of a playoff for 2nd. I thought I played pretty well but definitely left too many strokes on the table.

My third tournament of 2008 was the Thornton Open, which was held at the Prairie Disc Golf Course in Thornton, Iowa, on July 12. I hit my 5th career ace (1st tournament ace) during the first round with a Pro D Wasp but only ended up one under par for the round. The wind picked up during the second round and I shot another round of one under golf. My final score of 52 ended up being good enough to win the Advanced division by 1 stroke. This is my second tournament win and the first in the Advanced division (which is the highest usually offered at the small, unsanctioned tournaments I usually play.)

On August 2, I headed over to Humboldt for the 3rd Annual Humboldt Riverfest Disc Golf Tournament at Sheldon Park in Humboldt, Iowa. During my warm up round, I hit an ace on Hole 6 with the same D Wasp I aced with in Thornton. My hopes were high after the ace but I ended up only shooting even par (54) on the new 18-hole layout, which was good enough for 3rd place and one stroke out of 2nd in Advanced. I also took home the Advanced CTP with the longest drive on Hole 18. Overall, it was a great day. I got to play a very fun course and see some friends I don't get to see to often.

On September 12, I hit my 3rd ace of 2008 with a Pro D Challenger on Hole 1 on my home course (Firebird DGC in Coulter, Iowa.)

I was lucky enough to get to go on a disc golf vacation again this year. This time we made the six and a half hour drive to the Highbridge Hills Sports Complex in Wisconsin. On Friday we played Blueberry Hill and Highbridge Gold and on Saturday we played Granite Ridge, Woodland Greens and six holes of The Bear. These are some of the best courses that I have ever played. It is well worth the drive to get to play these terrific courses.

2009? Right now I am considering joining the PDGA and seeing how I do in some sanctioned events. My plan for 2009 is to play in one tournament a month from April to October. I can't wait!
