Well, like always, something good to talk about happens at Mushroom Manor Mini Disc Golf Course, and last night was no exception. It was cold, bitter cold. The temperature was 21 degrees with a wind chill of ZERO. Don't worry mini players are tuff and smart....usually. lol Before we got started Tobin Hurtt and I shot some video of the course and tried to give a small discription of the different kinds of minis we use. We had a little trouble because our hands got so cold they hurt within one minute. It was so cold clothing froze up. Juddy Paul was wearing a coat that froze and made a very annoying crinkle noise every time he moved. Later in the rouind his name changed to Crinkle and we shortened it to Crink. Who knows the name might stick.
No BONUS BUCKS were paid last night even though we played one of the easier formats. Let me explain a bonus buck. A player gets one dollar (a buck) from every player if they achieve the following:
Bogey free for 18 holes
No O.B. for 18 holes
Metal off the tee
"Cap Cash" (Landing on hole #5 green from the tee)
$5.00 bonus bucks for aces
A score of 2 on par 4's on the "Stretch r Out" format. A par 60 layout.
Merrill Detweiler needed to have his mini recued from the Little Conastoga river TWICE! He managed par 3 both times. Since tee time was 6 pm it was dark for this monthly. We had a dissappearing mini on the green of 5. It was quite amazing. The mini managed to skip on the green up and into the landscaping rocks. The only way it was visible was to get on your knees and look up into the rock wall. We knew the mini was on the green but never found it until after the round. No lost disc penalty was added to Det's score. By the way, we use glow Little Flyer minis charged up with LED black light flashlights and the baskets are illuminated with low voltage lights mounted to the top of the baskets.Night golf is no problem!
We had our first rules controversy of the year. Let me tell you, they are always very dramatic, just ask Steve Brinster about the drama at the 2007 Worlds in Wisconsin at Highbridge Hills. Anyway... hole #7 has O.B.srting running the entire lenght of the fairway on my neighbor's side. The problem was that the string needs replaced. The string was broken and was laying in the grass, making the O.B. tighter. Merrill wanted to make the call as out since Crink was on the wrong side of the string at it's current position. In my opinion that was rediculous. I told Merrill we would talk about it after the round, but he would not let it go and made quite a scene. I will have to install new rope ASAP!
Who said beer doesn't grow on trees? Before the round started Merrill hid some nice German beer in the bushes and trees of hole #7. Too bad we could not drink them, they froze:(
Scores: Merrill Detweiler 53 (-1)
Linc morgan 53 (-1)
Tobin Hurtt 62 (+8)
Bill Burke (Pops) 62 (+8)
Juddy "Crink" Paul 63 (+9)
